Watching it now.. is he EVER trashing the government for interfering with news reporting.

That was amazing. Just finished. I think it was CLEAR he told reports to get on the Iraq issue (man was crying at the end). He said that “we need you now more than ever” or something to that effect. He wanted the reporters to go out and get to the truth without directly mentioning it but it was pretty clear (at least to me).
