Attention: Wes Clark said Dems have GOT to stick up for each other.
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 02:42 PM by blm
he didn't say do so when it would be easy or only when we agree. He meant AS A MATTER OF COURSE. At least, that is what I took from his advice.

Clark was thrown into the dirt side of politics and saw firsthand that the problem is in what the media does to divide the party. He saw how many Dems are unprepared to do the sticking necessary to strengthen the party as a whole. He saw how bad some of the supposed spokespeople were during the campaign. That has to change.

I also think he means ALL Dems, lawmakers and citizens, activists and pundits.

The media is NOT ON OUR SIDE. Unfortunately, too many Democrats and especially the lawmakers are ignorant of the media's role in spreading discord.

1. Reagan's 11th Commandment comes to mind.
"Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican."

It has served their party exceedingly well, and we are stupid not to follow our own version.

6. No need for our own version of this.
"Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican."

Just change the word 'Republican' to 'Democrat' and it is as true for us as it is for them.

2. All too true.
Nevertheless, sometimes the party leaders need to enforce some discipline, especially on those with their hands in the till. Many bench-warmer D members of Congress have made it clear that they are not happy the new DNC leadership. If they ever want to be in the majority again, they had better get used to that new leadership. People who are more concerned with their own position within the party than with victory are a big part of our problem.

3. Send it to Ed Schultz. He is doing his damnedest to spread discord
and focus on criticizing Dean instead of the multitude of issues he could bash Bush and the Republicans on. This is all very disheartening.

Thanks, Wes.

4. I strongly agree with his position!!!
Everyone liberal, progressive, independent must stand united against this corrupt regime!!! At this time, anyone left of far right would be wise to stand united.

He's absolutely correct.

We need to speak in a unified voice, just as the Repugs do, the only difference being that we'll speak the truth. We'll leave the lies to the opposition.

Team Clark

10. Wish he had gotten in the race sooner,
he would have gotten the nomination and won the presidency.

13. Clark saw how badly other Dems did as surrogates for Kerry on TV.
He caught on to the game the media plays and he became a great campaign surrogate. So was Dean. Kerry trusted them both as surrogates.

Without serious exposure, the media and machines will assure the loss of any candidate, but Democrats don't have to make the loss PLAUSIBLE by being unprepared for the media assault on ANY of their leaders or a basic lack of understanding the word STICK.

11. This is an easy one to do ... so easy, our sides never does it .....
If you can't say something good about a fellow Dem, than just shut the fuck up.

Don't like what Dean says? Shut the fuck up. Say something new or different, okay ... but about Dean directly? Shut the fuck up.

Don't like what Lieberman says? Shut the fuck up. Say something new or different, okay ... but about Liebrman directly? Shut the fuck up.

Don't like what Dennis .... or Kerry .... or Boxer .... or Pelosi .... or anyone says? Shut the fuck up. Say something new or different, okay ... but about a Dem directly? Shut the fuck up.

So simple to say.

So hard to do. Especially for gasbags to do. And **especially** hard for the teevee camera whores in our party ..... the Sunday morning yakfest, weekday primetime yakfest Dem du jours ..... shut the fuck up.
