Why isn't Bush cheering the democratic revolution in Bolivia?
He was so hot for the ones in Ukraine and Georgia. Could it possibly be that the peasant's and poor people's demand nationalization of the energy industry?

LA PAZ, Bolivia (Reuters) - Bolivian President Carlos Mesa, who offered to resign to defuse weeks of indigenous protests, on Tuesday urged early elections after tens of thousands of miners and peasants descended on La Paz to demand nationalization of the country's energy resources.

Evo Morales, a main opposition and indigenous leader, has joined other congressmen in calling for the resignation of Vaca Diez and the leader of the lower chamber of Congress to make way for early elections.

No one in Bolivia, except perhaps the multinational oil companies and some elites, could support Vaca Diez as president, he said.

He said total nationalization of energy resources was a demand protest leaders would not negotiate. But he said protesters could allow some humanitarian relief for emergency supplies without lifting their blockades.

Mesa survived only 19 months in office before offering to step down Monday, his government buckling after weeks of protests by a coalition of impoverished Indians, miners and union members.

The resignation — expected to be accepted by Congress on Thursday — could ultimately usher in new elections, raising the prospect of Bolivia becoming the seventh Latin American country to move to a leftist government opposed to U.S. policies in the region.

US troops (and mercs) gathering in Paraguay close to Bolivian border, most likely with the purpose to invade and occupy Bolivian province of Santa Cruz, where all the hydrocarbon goodies are located!

14. Sigh.....
Bolivia has been overthrowing governments since I was a child. Yet the same old corrupt bureaucrats get back into the new government and nothing changes until the next overthrow.

Are you sure this one will be for keeps?

15. Yup, pretty sure
This is not about changing governments between various shades of elite. This is about nationalizing hydrocarbons and calling constitutional assembly to rewrite the Bolivian Constitution.
