What does the future hold for Governor Howard Dean ?
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 09:23 AM by kentuck
According to the Republican MSM, he has "foot in the mouth" disease. Many Democrats are falling for that line also. Unfoturnately, that is a trap Democrats should not fall into and should be aware of the pitfalls of aligning themselves with the Republicans and the media on this issue.

Governor Dean is a secret weapon for the Democrats. He can tell the unabashed truth about the Republicans. People are listening. They need to hear what he is saying. Where else are they going to get that type of "information"? Hours upon hours of attacks upon liberals and Kennedy and Hillary but never a word about the Republican criminals. It is OK for the Democrats in Congress to keep a discriminating distance from Governor Dean but they should do so in a way that does not align them with the Republican attack dogs in the media. Governor Dean is fighting for them also.

If the Democrats fold their hand and decide that Dean is not the guy that should be in that position, because he not raising enough "funds", they should ask themselves, "what are the funds for"? It is to get out a specific message. Governor Dean is getting out the message without the funds. That is an important point.

If Governor Dean were forced out, he would be pushed to run as a 3rd Party candidate. Remember Ralph Nader? Governor Dean would be a much stronger 3rd Party candidate than Ralph Nader. Just something to consider. We need to look at the big picture before we criticize too strongly. We should not cut off our nose to spite our face.

1. He will be vindicated. Howard Dean is very prescient.
Remember the outrage and the condemnation when he mentioned that we weren't safer with Saddam out of power?

Well ... here we are, and that's turning out to be the general consensus.

AFAIC, Dems are individuals and hold individual attitudes toward leaders in their party. We don't lockstep, so no one person is going to fit everyone's idea of what a chairman should say or do. I'm not focusing my negative energy on Dean, anyway, I'm directing it where it belongs ... at bush and his nasty henchmen.

2. I agree...
He has an opportunity to say what most of us at DU believe. They are "not very friendly to different kinds of people", "a pretty monolithic party", "a white, Christian party" and sometime much worse, criminal.
