Dean defends view of GOP as 'Christian party'
WASHINGTON - Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean on Wednesday defended his recent harsh criticism of Republicans, including his observation that they are “pretty much a white, Christian party.”

Dean noted that he, too, is a white Christian. But he said the GOP is too narrow in its scope and the Democratic Party is far more diverse.

While even prominent Democrats in recent days have distanced themselves from some of his comments, the outspoken Dean, appearing on NBC's “Today” show, said criticism of him is meant by Republicans to divert attention from the country’s problems and make him the issue instead.

Dean told a forum of journalists and minority leaders Monday that Republicans are “not very friendly to different kinds of people, they are a pretty monolithic party ... it’s pretty much a white, Christian party.”

2. They advertise themselves as that.
But when we point it out, we are somehow being unfair.

7. Wouldn't a White Christian party be a majority party?
I mean, if all White Christians voted Republican, we'd be pretty screwed wouldn't we?

I know that's not what Dean meant, but I don't think the Democrats want to necessarily paint themselves as the "Minority Pagan Party."

8. What they are is a "White Christians Only" party.
But it is about fucking time that someone in authority just came out and admitted that. I mean, everyone knows it. Everyone thinks it. And no one says it, so it gets hung over our heads. They get all the advantages of their racist segments and none of the disadvantages. Screw that.

Go Dean!

10. Hmmm ... once knew a Republican with the last name Nguyen.
Fairly conservative republican, at that. Not in the least Xian, as far as I could tell. Last I heard of him he was going off to the Balkans to work as an intern in refugee camps, he was a health policy wonk.

I could have sworn he was Vietnamese: said he was one of the boat people and had a soft spot for refugees, claimed his grandfather managed to get him out of the country. His grandfather had to escape, being a dentist and all.

I'll go with Dean, repubs are all white Xians. Therefore the guy I knew must have been one of those crypto-Anglos, carefully assuming a foreign-sounding name and putting on his face make-up every day. Is there no deceit too low for them to stoop to?

He probably went off to help the Serbs.

11. LOTS of prominent Republicans have been calling us TRAITORS
for fucking YEARS. They've insinuated we're a everything from fans of beastiality to certifiably insane. It's fucking ludicrous to criticize Dean for stating the obvious; the Republican Party actively goes after WASPs. Duh.
