they're actually expanding it, to hold even more 'killers'.

meanwhile the threat of more abu ghraib photos to be released hangs over the white house.---------------------

U.S. to Hide Faces in Unreleased Abu Ghraib Photos, Judge Says
June 3 (Bloomberg) -- The Defense Department must black out the faces of Iraqi detainees depicted in some previously unreleased photos from Abu Ghraib prison chronicling abuse at the hands of U.S. soldiers, a federal judge ruled.

The judge's ruling, while it doesn't specifically say that the photos will eventually be publicly released, agrees with the position of the American Civil Liberties Union, which is seeking the disclosure of the images.

The decision follows a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by the ACLU, the New York Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights seeking public disclosure of materials concerning the treatment of detainees at U.S. bases in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the ACLU said in statement posted on its Web site.

The April 2004 release of images showing U.S. guards abusing and humiliating prisoners caused widespread shock and outrage in the Arab world and internationally. U.S. lawmakers brought military commanders before congressional hearings to explain the abuse, which they described as rogue behavior that violated military standards.

Bush Vows To Tear Down Abu Ghraib
During his speech Bush announced the U.S. would tear down the Abu Ghraib prison if the new Iraqi government wanted it to be done. Abu Ghraib has been a symbol of abuse and torture under both Saddam Hussein and the U.S. occupation forces. In other Abu Ghraib news, US Army Brigadier General Janis Karpinski, who was in charge of the notorious prison, has been suspended.

12. Wanted to tear it down, rebuild and name it 'Bob'
Two rehearsals for his prime-time speech were not enough to keep U.S. President George W. Bush from mangling the name of the Abu Ghraib prison that brought shame to the U.S. mission in Iraq.

During the half-hour televised address, Bush mispronounced Abu Ghraib each of the three times he mentioned it while announcing U.S. plans to tear down the infamous jail and replace it with a new facility.

The prison, the scene of torture under Saddam Hussein and the setting for the Iraqi prison abuse scandal under the U.S. military, has a name that English speakers usually pronounce as "abu-grabe".

But the Republican president, long known for verbal and grammatical lapses, stumbled on the first try, calling it "abugah-rayp". The second version came out "abu-garon", the third attempt sounded like "abu-garah".

3. I do recall it being said but I never believe anything the GOP ---
say. I hardly believe the Dem. any more. I am going off shore on this and just have some belief in what I read if their is any reason in it. That is of course in my way of thinking.

Lacking consent, the current U.S.-Iraqi regime relies heavily on fear, including the most terrifying tactics of them all: disappearances, indefinite detention without charge and torture. And despite official reassurances, it's only getting worse. A year ago, President Bush pledged to erase the stain of Abu Ghraib by razing the prison to the ground. There has been a change of plans. Abu Ghraib and two other U.S.-run prisons in Iraq are being expanded, and a new 2,000- person detention facility is being built, with a price tag of $50 million. In the last seven months alone, the prison population has doubled to a staggering 11,350.

The U.S. military may indeed be cracking down on prisoner abuse, but torture in Iraq is not in decline - it has simply been outsourced. In January, Human Rights Watch found that torture within Iraqi-run (and U.S.- supervised) jails and detention facilities was "systematic," including the use of electroshock.
