2. That is a great idea
He is so respected and admired all over the world, unlike the current squatter and his minions.

3. That would be beautiful
It would help our position with other nations to no end. . .

And it would have the Freepers in fits :) (which would make it that much better).

7. I like the idea
Not sure if Clinton would want to be secretary of state but if he does then I think he would make a very good one. A former president would bring with him relationships with foreign leaders built up over 8 years, and a unique perspective from the White House Situation Room.

9. You know, getting DLC'ers into the cabinet is almost inevitable.
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 04:25 PM by HereSince1628
I would hope that Clinton isn't one of them.

Can you imagine the stories about "the power behind the throne?"

No, thanks, none of the 10 need THAT baggage. Willy can kibitz via telephone, lets not undermine the next administration.

10. He's more useful as Ambassador Plenipotentiary
ie, Jimmy Carter, the next generation. Bill is incredibly popular abroad, but putting him in the Cabinet wouldn't take advantage of his strengths. It would also probably immediately put the new President in his shadow. And it would give the right-wing media back their favorite topic to foam about.

Bill, Hillary and Al are all pretty young still. I kind of look forward to the day Bill can run for Hillary's Senate seat in 2012 when she runs for President to replace a two-term Democrat. Hey, he lives in NYC!

12. Traditionally that begins with an artillery attack on Ft. Sumter...
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 05:07 PM by HereSince1628
I would guess that the most likely order of march would be to expect an attack from Maryland, Virginia, or Delaware to lead the whole she-bang.

On edit: I hope we never have to see the succession reach that deep.

13. I think he's a new yorker now, don't think he's going back to DC
I think Fareed Zakaria would be a good choice for state. Having a muslim as sec of state would really be advantageous in the crucial middle east developments that will inevitably occur over the coming years

16. It just may be the DEMs take back the Senate as well, given the mood is
changing across the nation. The Pubs have proven to be war mongers and decietful liars. People are tired of talk and no show. Nothing, Nada.

Instead what we got is a bill our grandchildren will have to bear. Our National Debt is almost 7 $trillion, When Bush leaves office, it will be 8 trillion.

17. regardless of our feelings about BC, 40% of americans hate the guy
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 11:01 PM by kodi
and the next democratic president does not need his/her adminstration saddled with the baggage a bill clinton senate confirmation would prodcue.

and i disagree with you, people are comfortably numb and are unwilling to do more than the bare minumum to improve their lot thru the political process.

apparently, and thankfully, you live in a healthy environment where those with whom you communicate are intelligent and interested in positive change thru political activism, but most of this country is not, and the overwhelming number of people i encounter could care less about the GOP being a pack of liars. they dont care, at least not enough, in enough numbers to impact the system we have in a positive manner that changes such a system actually working to their dis-advantage.

and yes, bill clinton would be a good sec state. he would be better as our president, and i dont think any democrat who is president would allow clinton to be sec of state, other than his wife, i think anybody else would be threatened by clinton in his cabinet. no one who is in the oval office wants to be perceived, albeit probably erroneously, as doing clinton's biding vis-a-vis foreign policy.
