"parental resistance could put the all-volunteer force in jeopardy"
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 07:07 AM by welshTerrier2
This is just great ... the neo-cons declare never-ending global war and then can't understand why parents are resisting their recruitment activities ...

in the article below, from today's NY Times, one recruiter even suggests that it could be putting "our national staying power" in jeopardy ... we can only hope so ... of course, the truth is that it is not enlightened parents doing that but rather the insanity of the policy itself ... the neo-cons don't seem to want to take responsibility for their own alienating policies ...

what a great sales pitch to parents they have - global, never-ending war ... Country Joe summed it up perfectly: "be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box" ...

Title: Growing Problem for Military Recruiters: Parents

Military officials are clearly concerned. In an interview last month, Maj. Gen. Michael D. Rochelle, commander of Army recruiting, said parental resistance could put the all-volunteer force in jeopardy. When parents and other influential adults dissuade young people from enlisting, he said, "it begs the question of what our national staying power might be for what certainly appears to be a long fight." <skip>

But Col. David Slotwinski, a former chief of staff for Army recruiting, said that the Army faced an uphill battle because many baby boomer parents are inclined to view military service negatively, especially during a controversial war.

"They don't realize that they have a role in helping make the all-volunteer force successful," said Colonel Slotwinski, who retired in 2004. "If you don't, you're faced with the alternative, and the alternative is what they were opposed to the most, mandatory service."

Actually, the alternative is PEACE !!!! ... but then i didn't expect a military recruiter to understand that ...

1. Ooooo, now there's a new way to win people to your cause . . . blame
the parents for a draft!

It's all your fault your son was drafted mom and dad. Nevermind that it's an illegal war with dubious motives, if you'd volunteered your son to go get his pecker blown off by an IED, then all those other youngsters wouldn't have to be drafted.

What the FUCK is wrong with these people?

4. Sorry, Already donated...
Son-in-law is in Navy, daughter served in Army. Republican parents are the problem. If they voted for Bush, THEIR children need to serve. Didn't think about that when you voted for Bush? Too bad.

We need to send a list of Republican voters to send to these recruiters somehow. OR - every parent of high school children should each do their duty and give Republican names to the recruiters. Help them out!

5. Hang it on the baby boomers again...why not?
But Col. David Slotwinski, a former chief of staff for Army recruiting, said that the Army faced an uphill battle because many baby boomer parents are inclined to view military service negatively, especially during a controversial war.

"T-t-t-talkin' about my generation..."

My ears are still ringing from the beating we're taking over how we boomers are responsible for a bogus social security crisis, and now they claim we're unwilling to do our part to "fight terra".

Try this on for size, Mr. Army-man...we boomers either fought in the previous pointless war in Vietnam or grew up with it all around us so we've got the ability to spot pointless wars, and this bullshit war you're trying to sell is just such a war, if not worse.

Eat my baby boomer shorts. You ain't getting my kids. Not for this shit.

6. Why Do Parents Hate America?
If parents do not send their children overseas to liberate oil from the Arabian sands, then the terrorists have already won.

7. I can see the propaganda now
your neighbors are sending your kids to die in "THE WAR" because they're teaching their own to hate America and not join the march of democracy. They're your neighbors. Maybe you should talk to them.
