What's the matter with Kansas...female state sen against women's suffrage
What rock do these people crawl out from under?????

TOPEKA, Kan. - A state senator who once said that giving women the vote was a symptom of weakness in the American family now wants to be Kansas' top elections official.

Sen. Kay O'Connor announced Wednesday that she is seeking the GOP nomination for secretary of state next year. O'Connor, 63, has served in the Legislature since 1993.

In 2001, O'Connor received national attention for her remarks about the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1920, which gave women the right to vote.

"I think the 19th Amendment, while it's not an evil in and of itself, is a symptom of something I don't approve of," she said at the time. "The 19th Amendment is around because men weren't doing their jobs, and I think that's sad. I believe the man should be the head of the family. The woman should be the heart of the family."

1. Is there some point at which hypocrisy could be criminalized?
This woman, who lives a very public life, thinks that woman should not
only go back home, but should be denied the vote!!

I say that is Felony hypocrisy, and this woman should be imprisoned.

2. Like this surprises me
I live and work in freakin' Kansas and I'm from NYC.
Tell me I don't walk around half the time with my jaw dropped.
If they are crawlin' out from under a rock, I bet it's a Christian red rock.

3. We should have a contest on which are the most backward states.
The "future" isn't turning out the way I thought it would, that's for sure.

4. Well maybe she should give up her freakin' seat and go do some baking!
I guess Kansas will be the state with the voting irregularities in the next farcical election as she is seeking to be it's SOS.
God Save the United States.

5. She is just acting out
what she sees as her role in neocon-land -- a woman against (that which benefits) women. (And if you argue against her, the neocons will scream sexism. -- Shameless, but hilarious.)

Characters of this type are not uncommon in neocon ranks (look for anyone there who isn't a white male for a start), it is a recognized "billet" -- and a "career path".

8. Is she a piece of work?
I think we should have a list of these anti-feminist women, like the ten top idiots here on DU. Should we give them a prize? How about a snowflake baby cartoon they can pretend to care about. I just saw a local Republican floozy whining about Democrats picking on Arnold and standing in his way of the things he's trying to accomplish. What's with the blond big hair and the cake decorater make-up with these dames? Are they afraid of their own faces? I think it's the hairspray and solvent needed to remove all that make-up that's affecting the ozone layer.
