Please, Karenina started a thread pointing this out and I have tried to point this out. Please please please stop saying Downing Street MEMO. Please please please start saying Downing Street MINUTES. These are official minutes of a meeting held with the Prime Minister of England. This is NOT a 'memo' that can get Rathered.

The www.downingstreetminutes.com link home page has "The Downing Street Memo " emblazened across the top!??? so confused. But I agree, "minutes" should be used, not "memo".

I fixed the title in my post on the subject. Sorry, and yes, I do understand the importance of the difference.

11. A very critical distinction, indeed.
MEMO: short for memorandum, Merriam-Webster: 1. an informal record; also: a written reminder 2. an informal note of a transaction or proposed instrument 3. an informal diplomatic communication that contains directive, advisory or INFORMATIVE matter MINUTES: THE OFFICIAL RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF A MEETING.
