does anyone else think that it's odd. . .
that there is all this attention given to "Deep Throat" regarding the revelation of the whistleblower on a thirty year old third rate burglary, when the unelected powers that be today, who have committed far beyond anything we could imagine back then in terms of totallly treasonist high crimes and misdeameanors committed at least hourly, with total impunity who go totally unscrutinized.

Just saying. . .and wondering. . .

1. you're correct

Deep Throat is like Jackson trial, Runaway Bride, Anything the press can sieze on, anything, to avoid the huge stinking elephant in the room which is the lie-based Iraq occuption

2. No, it's not odd. This has been a constant question for 32 years!
Most people who lived through that mess are very interested in this story. I will find it odd if it stays as the headline news story for days, but remember this story just broke a few hours ago.

3. Well, it's a HUGE story.
So I'm glad it's getting some attention, instead of all Michael and Paris, all the time. It's something I've been wondering about all my life. (I remember asking my parents about Watergate when I was a wee one.)

However, yeah, there should be more on Bushco, obviously.

5. We desperately need modern day insiders to follow suit. Hopefully
a media recap of the entire saga might inspire such people to expose bush high crimes and misdemeanors. They would be elevated to hero status, in my opinion.

that will go a long way toward discouraging followers...

14. That's it, they don't want to have the news of the Downing memo
make it to MSM, so this story materializes. They don't want to be held accountable for their lies. :argh:

Accountablity Now!

Watergate be damned! :argh:

18. At this stage, I think they all are pod people.
They haven't minds of their own. They definitely are not patriots, they could care less about our nation's survival, they wouldn't know the truth about what is happening in our nation, to our nation, if it bite them on the a$$.

When the war crimes tribunals start (dreaming here), I hope they are all indicted as accessories before, during and after the fact.

13. Of course he's not a hero to the neo-con-artists.
He blew the whistle on an illegal secret operation. He screwed up the means they were justifying to their ends.

These guys are into ILLEGAL and SECRET.
Freedom's on the march, my ass.

31. Looks like today the press is really taking the 'hero' question to
the WH cabal. And expecting clear answer on the question. And not accepting myth or re-history.

LOL Good for them.

that takes away from what is happening in Iraq. It's wrong and sick but it's the way the American public works. They can only stand to hear about violence for so long before needing a distraction

23. I'm not sure I'd call Deep Throat's identity a "distraction."
The speculation has been swirling for thirty years. This is a legitimate news story. As someone said upthread, the story only broke today.

11. Not to mention that for years repukes alleged there was not deep throat,
and it was merely a made up person so Woodward & Bernstein could just print anything they wanted. Guess those unnamed sources aren't just a figment of someone's imagination. Rather timely imo.

19. Oh shit
I honestly don't protest that much really . . .:hi:

I just know as many others in this thread that since I was very young, Deep Throat was the source of great intrigue. In truth I've always been bereft of a shred of respect for authority ssince then.

Yet fundamentally, Nixon's crimes pale by comparison to *'s, and I do find it odd that this intrigue would finally be revealed at this particular juncture in time.

When our current leader has broken every treaty, trashed international diplomacy irrevocably, bankrupted our nation, and ruined our reputation with seeming total impunity.

It's just at least. . .curious

21. If Watergate happened today, the story would never be published! n/t
The White House would keep repeating that it never happened, anybody that reported it would be publicly humiliated, right-wing talk radio would be talking about the "liberal" media and how they lie and don't confirm stories, etc, etc. What has happened to this country??

24. The dynamics are interesting.
During Nixon, the congress and the dominant government was mostly Democratic. Even Nixon was coerced into progressive governing. But he longed to be more authoritarian.

The country shifted largely as a backlash to the sixties, which was a reaction to Vietnam. Who thought the country could turn so reactionary?

To the present day -- any distraction from the real news is welcome to this administration. This one may be different though.

26. No more than if we find the...
missing Zapruder frames and find out who was on the Grassy Knoll.

I'll agree that there are terrible things going on now, but that they don't report them doesn't mean they should ignore one of the enduring questions of the American mythos.

They could do both if they tried.

they distract everyone with 30 year old news thinking no one will notice that they're rubbing it in all our faces that they are getting away with far worse horrific crimes right here right now! They did the same thing after the stolen election in November when they were oh so concerned with the Ukrainian election fraud/exit polls while ignoring the blatant fraud/exit polls here! :grr:

28. The so-called Watergate Scandal hid quite a few serious crimes....
...that were perpetrated by the US political, economic, and military rightwing. For instance:

1. The Cuban Task Force;
2. The Bay of Pigs;
3. The assassination of JFK;
4. The escalation of the war in Vietnam;
5. The assassinations of RFK and MLK, Jr.;
6. The funding of rightwing organizations in the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America;
7. The development of a drug trade used to fund intelligence operations without ever having to report the expenditures.

There's a lot more, but that's the basics.

And no, Watergate was far from being a "third rate burglary". It was designed to bring down a sitting president, and it was successful in doing so.

32. IMHO-Intuition is something we shouldn't brush off, don't you think?
I've discovered that since I gave up on the Corporate Media and started to rebel against it, that I listen to my intuition more while ignoring outside influences. I really think the people of this country have been shaped and molded rather than allowed to grow independently without interference, like people in Europe. That is one reason we're in such big trouble now-we couldn't see what was coming.

Just say yes to your own intuition! :)
