Coincidence? "dissemble" Dictionary.com Word of the Day 5/30/05
<<SNIP>>
http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2005/05/30.html

Word of the Day for Monday May 30, 2005
dissemble \dih-SEM-buhl\, transitive verb:
1. To hide under a false appearance; to hide the truth or true nature of.
2. To put on the appearance of; to feign.

<</SNIP>>

In terms of the detainees, we've had thousands of people detained. We've investigated every single complaint against the detainees. It seemed like to me they based some of their decisions on the word of -- and the allegations -- by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble -- that means not tell the truth. And so it was an absurd report. It just is. And, you know -- yes, sir.

<</SNIP>>

We all know what smirky was apparently trying to say... Did he just learn the word yesterday, while surfing the internet(s)? Maybe that's why he got wrong, not enough time to practice?

1. I really hate that condescending, arrogant asshole
...people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble -- that means not tell the truth.

Ok, first off, this moron apparently has just learned the word, so he is quite proud to use it. So he decided to throw in the meaning right afterwards, in a condescending manner, as though he were somehow smarter than everyone else because he used this "big word".

But he fucks it up and says the wrong word? And he is arrogant enough to define it for us?

Its a good thing he did tell us what he meant, otherwise we would have no idea what this idiot was trying to say.

8. Sorry, I almost verbatim posted what you did (below).
Had the exact same thought. The moron is so damned stupid AND arrogant that he feels like he has to define a word for us, probably b/c since HE just learned it, so it MUST be complicated!

Great point about how, if he didn't define it, we probably wouldn't know WTF he was talking about. We'd all be wondering if he meant that the detainees had been trained in some kind of engineering or something.

12. Yeah, it just bugs the hell out of me
He has this word written into his speech, and then a definition (for those of us who apparently aren't as smart as him). And then he butchers the word, says something completely different, and apparently doesn't even realize it.

He's that stupid.

Does he not listen to himself talk?

How could someone actually say something, and then define it, without being conscious of their mistake?

17. You really think he seeks to improve
ANYTHING? Much less his vocabulary? The fuckwit thinks he is flawless and nobody has the balls to tell him otherwise. He doesn't even read a newspaper, I doubt he's concerned about learning the world wealth word of the day.

7. OMFG! You mean he said it (SO) wrong, and THEN "told us" what it meant?!
"people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble -- that means not tell the truth."

This reminds me of when he referred to opponents of his on some issue as "revisionists"... and then proceeded to grace us with the meaning of such a complicated (4-syllable) word.

You just know damn well that his staff had just informed him of the meaning of the word and told him to use it. And since it's new to him, he thinks it's so high falootin' that he has to school the masses on his "fancy talkin".

It's amazing that his entire staff isn't walking around with massive red marks on their foreheads from all the slapping of them they do every time he speaks.

Arrogance and stupidity: a dangerous combination!

Along with "sociopath", "ironic", "kismet", and "dumbass"?

13. I heard this on NPR coming home and we nearly put the car in the
ditch. What a fucking MORON. What a buffoon, a snot, a weasel. To define the word to us idiots, and then use the wrong word! It's a priceless classic! He must have just seen it himself, in the only reading he does -- the TelePrompter -- and he said the wrong word and then defined "dissemble." Priceless. Just priceless.

20. I don't agree it's a -transitive- verb. (Don't have a dictionary handy)
but I cannot see how it would require an object. Wouldn't
"You dissemble" be a grammatically correct sentence?
