US military in a twilight zone

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/GF01Ak03.html

-snip-

On the one hand, Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld and his chief "transformation" advisers could not be more excited about the new opportunities for Washington to sustain its full-spectrum military dominance through space-warfare inventions, such as lasers and "rods from gods" that will hurl death-dealing metal from the heavens at more than 100,000 kilometers per hour onto precise, geo-orbitally located targets far below.

On the other hand, more than two years after conquering Iraq, an occupation force of 140,000 US soldiers and Marines still are unable to secure the highway that runs between the Green Zone, the center of the Iraqi government in Baghdad, and the city's airport just 10 kilometers away against guerrilla attacks and their increasingly sophisticated improvised explosive devices.

-snip-

To the great frustration of the middle ranks, repeated assertions by Bush and Rumsfeld that the military leadership has told them they have enough troops in Iraq are probably true. "The military part of has been politicized," General Jay Garner, the Pentagon's original choice to run Iraq, told the Sun. "If disagree, they are ostracized and their reputations are ruined."

Thus, a cowed and politicized military establishment, hailed as invincible just two years ago, marches steadily down a demoralizing but all-too-familiar path.
----------------------------------

so there you have our military:

"cowed and politicized "

2. Perfect example of John Wayne "tear-in-one-eye" idiotic Americanism

Translation for Reality:

Dear World:

We would like to be politically and economically isolated, North Korea style.

Best Regards,

John Wayne

Whats hillarious about these right-wing mouthbreathers is they dont bat an eye everytime Bush BEGS, and I mean BEGS for foreign aide, regarding both terrorism and "peace-keeping" abroad.

Why is your president BEGGING for foreign help, idiot, if your little mandate should hold true?

6. Hey Mr. RushIsStillUsing
Cutting all foreign aid wouldn't pay one tenth of the Iraq war cost. Maybe clueless OxyRush dim bulbs will one day get something right.

12. What I'd REALLY like to hear is
My fellow Americans. I was wrong about Saddam and WMD's. I was just wrong, and I'm sorry that before this is over at least 2,000 US troops will be dead, and our children will be saddled with hundreds of billions of dollars in debt for this debacle.

That doesn't even begin to speak of the shame that I have brought to America, invading a country that was no threat to us, and then letting perverted Rambo-wannabe's torture and sexually abuse the people of the country which I wrongly invaded. Nothing can make up for that.

But to show how sorry I am, I am offering my resignation from the Presidency effective immediately.

No hard feelin's, right?
