I don't mean only in the US, I mean EVERYWHERE!

I'm listening to Bernie Ward, and he's talking about all the countries that have expressed real hatered toward Shrub.

I'm 61, and I sure don't remember any. The Pubs hated Clinton, but that's about the worst I can remember.

3. napi21, who could you be talking about?
To me, it's very worrying. We like/would like/do travel, but this man is making every damn American who wants to travel suspect bcause they're an American? I am very angry.

4. Nixon WAS Hated This Much
Edited on Tue May-31-05 01:12 AM by rwenos
In Berkeley in 1972, '73 and '74, where I was, Nixon was despised. My parents hated Nixon for what he did to Jerry Voorhees (1946) and Helen Douglass (1948), when he was just starting out. And that "Checkers" speech in 1952 -- whew!

People forget there was serious discussion in 1973-1974 of what would happen if Nixon had cancelled the 1976 presidential election.

What makes Bush/Hate worse now, I think, is the disputed election of 2001, which (even more than Watergate) attacked the credibility of the American electoral process. Only worse election than 2000 was 1876, which historians recognize was stolen by Rutherford B. Hayes.

But people hated Nixon. I still hate him for the bombing of Cambodia, the lies, the use of the IRS to harass liberals, COINTELPRO -- a whole bunch of stuff.

9. I still hate Nixon too
but he was a lot better president. Nixon at least accomplished a few things while in office - the EPA was created, for one thing.

* on the other hand, has accomplished zip. Unless you consider starting an unnecessary war an accomplishment.

11. Also with Nixon
Edited on Tue May-31-05 02:48 AM by FreedomAngel82
didn't he invent the food stamp program? If I have all my history of Nixon right he also didn't have a popular politician daddy to bail him out of everything. He also resigned when he was caught with Watergate unlike Bush who is to damn stubborn to do anything. I may dispise Nixon too (even though I wasn't around then) but some VERY VERY VERY small part of me even feels sorry for him. With Bush I don't with him or any of his family members.

5. Nixon was pretty much hated.
I was working behind the bar at the time Nixon was President. We always had the news on during happy hour. This was at a time when we actually had decent news. Every time Nixon was shown, people in the bar boo'ed. When he did his "I am not a crook" speech he was heckled and boo'ed. When he finally left in disgrace, every one cheered.

12. I think with Nixon and resigning
he only did as to not bring any more shame on himself, his family, his administration and his party. Bush doesn't care about anything but his administration's plans. He doesn't worry about other republicans who have to go along with his plans or be destroyed by Rove by their brainwashed followers who have to be re-elected and destroying the party from the inside for their sick plans.

Edited on Tue May-31-05 03:09 AM by BlueIris
Bush is more hated in an international sense--but Nixon's only a (very) close second. And I still think parts of Nixon's administration were more mendacious, and generally worse than that of even Bush and the boys (ie; Ashcroft sucks, but I contend that Mitchell sucked harder). However, I did not live through the Nixon years. My mother, who did, in her fervent, passionate youth, now says Bush is worse (something that amazes me).

15. I'm sure there have been.

If you're talking about purely domestic hatred, Abraham Lincoln springs to mind as an obvious example, and if you restrict yourself to postwar then both Clinton and Nixon are within the same ballpark, although not being an American it's hard for me to rank them precisely.

I'm not sure there has been a president of the USA more widely disliked around the world as a whole, but I think that has a lot to do with the ever-increasing size of US influence.

I don't think there has been a president as unpopular abroad as Bush, but I think there probably will be others in future.

He's a bad president, but I don't think he's a uniquely bad one.

19. Actually, he is uniquely bad for this reason:
He is destroying our infrastructure to line his pals' pockets. Ditto for his foreign policy.

This is the most corrupt American pResident in the short history of this country. I hope we survive him.

20. Lived through Nixon
Bush is worse. It goes way beyond war issues with Bush. I feel Bush is setting out to create some kind of theocratic medieval society here at home. He is doing it by any means possible; lying, cheating, etc.
