Geeze, who else feels most everything they read is Propaganda?
I find I only trust: Joe Conason, Molly Ivans, Gene Lyons, American Prospect, Nation (some), a little Salon and a handful of the most Popular Bloggers linked here on DU to really give me the "News" I need to know.

I've got to say it's a whole lot better than when I logged on to DU back in 2001 and getting better every day with the newest bloggers who post our hero John Conyer's latest...but still the rest of the Whore Media has gotten sluttier and so it's like I have to sit on my butt for hours to find out what's REALLY going on.

It's WORSE for the "mainstream" news and better for us Lefties...but sheesh what the hell is going on out there with so much propaganda from even the sites that I do still look to for credibility ...sometimes.

1. I don't even read it anymore cause
I know it's going to be propoganda. Out of all of this ..I certainly learned to recognize propoganda when I see it.

I won't even look at the headlines of my small town newspaper in the newspaper rack as I go by cause I think it could cause my blood to boil.

It's why I'm on the internet so much.

And don't forget http://www.buzzflash.com those guys are some of the best.

4. Buzzflash is the Greatest and they need some $$'s.
They are the best "one stop shop" on the internet for really liberal/lefty news.

I should have mentioned them because their "Editorials" are the best reads on the net and their interviews. They are having a fund raiser right now. I'm going to give them a few bucks even though we have all been hard pressed lately with donations. They deserve whatever we can cough up for the job they do. And their titles for articles on links always give me a chuckle because they are so clever at getting to the heart of issues that we all are dealing with.

Thanks for the reminder Zidzi...It was right in front of my nose and I had a lapse in mentioning them.

2. who owns who and what
Who owns Bush? Corporations and theocrats.

Who owns the Senate? Large contributors, lobbyists, corporations, and Bush.

Who owns the Congress? Large contributors, people who don't want to pay more taxes, theocrats, lobbyists, and Bush.

Who owns the media? People who own Bush and the corporations.

Did you see the word "people" anywhere in there?

No.

Sue

7. You said it......"people" it's like "pundits" and "talking heads" talking
to each other, and so called reporters writing to each other so that what they talk about gets on an "internet blog."

It's all kind of disgusting.

5. What I hear is also mostly propaganda, and disgusts me.
You're right; who can you trust? I've been watching news with an ear towards what isn't being said (way too much), and I can thank DU for that!

9. I am a CounterPuncher
Alexander Cockburn at CounterPunch is a great writer and the champion of all mucrakers. I do not watch the news on television or read the papers or magazines. The truth is on the Internet and I read several hours a day.

Saturday night I was at a friends house hooking up his DSL. They cut the television off so that I could give them some reality. People really do want to know what is going on. The only thing is they think it should be on television.

10. That is why
I use Yahoo! News and Google News. I can filter out crap with a search and serch for stories that MSM wouldn't cover.

11. Unless I am stupid, I would say there are some heavy fingers there too
If it something like a major earthquake or even a death of a somewhat timely figure, it mostly seems like all junk news to me. Mostly it seems meant to lead others in obscure directions.

Btw. You did know they now have a vast array of spooks working in, on and around Google, didn't ya

Are everywhere. Google, Yahoo, my gf's ass. Spooks have been spying on us forever. Deal with it. We've been a police state for awhile.

19. It's all relative
News to one person is propaganda to another. This is where critical thinking comes in so the bullshit can be filtered. Too bad Americans prefer to turn off their brains and let fundie ministers order them around.

20. Even if it''s relatives, it don't matter
Language is the key to escape, without that twisted use of it things could be put to rest very simply. When these lawyers, judges, politicians and just about any other officialdom or bureaucratic bumbler uses it to obfuscate or hinder progress the need for propaganda and several other parlor devices come to bare.

I have a beef with it all. This deception occurs when the artifice is used to transfer the responsibility from the person to something or someone else. The duck and dodge the quantifies most of our cultural institutions and most all of society almost now cannot last. Left leaners are often as guilty of it as the righties, so yea I agree with your statement

To take responsibility is not possible in this political climate though but pulling the chair out is. Highlighting the disastrous condition of our economics may not disarm them, but it will enlarge the natural fissures that where there in the first place.

The cornerstone of this shtick called conservatism, this farce of economic stability and sound fiscal management will be the rock that trips it. It's happened that way since time was recorded and it seems
difficult to me to figure out why it wont happen again.

and as for the relatives part why don't people demand and chant to bring home the children, the fathers, the sons and daughters. When your a troop, your just another artifice? Heard a truth-speaker who denied them letting them send him to Iraq point out that glaring deficiency. Bring our relatives home

12. Big bucks
If you protect Bush's ass you get big bucks. Try to find the post about CNP (I believe that's what they're called). It talks about how the republican party has a handle on all these various places in our country from "news" to rightwing "Christian" groups. I mainly visit a few blogs and DU and Yahoo for news.

13. It's all crap.
Even our local news is so poorly written and reported sometimes I wonder if they're using High School kids.

And NPR stands for National Propaganda Radio.

The only reason I keep up with it is to see what brand of Bullshit they're shoving down the Sheeple's throats this week...

15. an excellent question to throw out
and I think many of us are here for that very reason...
several years ago; now that i think of it///
until the MOMENT the Supreme Court stopped the count
I was a tv news junkie
at that very moment, I had an epiphany
I thought...oh my god
we cant even trust THEM now!

slowly but surely, I migrated away from tv news altogether
for awhile I was down to Olbermann
and sometimes CBS, when they first felt the sting of BushCo

then I began ONLY watching C-Span Washington Journal
(which I still do early every morning)
that is the ONLY news I get from the box anymore
I cannot stomach any of the news networks - cable or otherwise

so:
C-Span in the morning
the 'net during the day
(DU first, then Buzzflash, RawStory, dkos)
and Randi at 2

and thats it
I don't bellieve anyone else
its all bullshit

and amazing baloney it is, too
and to think of all the millions of people
watching all the trash and believing every word
its downright scary

18. Me here. Plug for learning a "furin" language-
I am bilingual (American English/German) so I often toddle over to Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Der Welt and of course Deutsche Welle on streaming radio. Interesting stuff there. I especially like all the science news that one never finds in the MSM. My morning news reading starts with the Guardian and Der Spiegel. I don't even bother with the US media...can't believe the crap that they consider "news."

-gave up my TV addiction in 1979...now I listen to the radio.
