C-Span - Media Anti-Terrorism Coverage on right now.
Anybody watching this program? These guys are tearing in to the media for not doing their job.

Question - they mentioned a film that has been shown just about everywhere in the world but the US about Al Queda, terrorists, etc. Even have an edited version that will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival. I didn't catch the name of the film and was wondering if anyone knows it is available on the "internets."

The guy discussing this said that a MSM guy (unnamed) said he "wouldn't dare" to show in on American TV. Said "they" (thinking Commander CuckooBananas and the Roveholes) would have his head.

This is gotta see. Links, anybody?

5. It is something like the "Power of Nightmares".
Edited on Sat May-28-05 10:20 AM by Pithy Cherub
This was a very thoughtful panel! They were very pointed in the criticisms of the press and thier inability to cover stories and their need to put everything in sterotypical simplistic terms to gain attention. The guy that brought up the diversity of opinion in Brazil on the spectrum of views was excellent in saying that breadth of ideas is not present on the US op eds. Basic groupthink in action. One guy actually called it the corporate press.

They excoriated some book by Pozner/Posner and the hateful Michelle Malkin about its sourcing.

And it is really early here in CA.

7. The film US TV networks dare not show

The film US TV networks dare not show

Adam Curtis has recut his explosive war on terror documentary The Power of Nightmares into a feature film - and is taking it to the festival. But he's no Michael Moore, he tells Stuart Jeffries

Thursday May 12, 2005
The Guardian

There will be no red carpet for Adam Curtis when his film The Power of Nightmares receives its gala screening at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday. There would be no point: his film has no leading ladies who could disport themselves in backless numbers or lantern-jawed himbos to vogue fatuously before the snappers. Unless, of course, two of his chief protagonists, Osama bin Laden and Paul Wolfowitz, could be prevailed upon to pose together for the world's press on the Grand Palais steps.

snip>

But the film is even more incendiary for its analysis of what Curtis controversially insists is the largely illusory fear of terrorism in the west since 9/11. Curtis argues that politicians such as Bush and Blair have stumbled on a new force that can restore their power and authority - the fear of a hidden and organised web of evil from which they can protect their people. In a still-traumatised US, those with the darkest nightmares have become the most powerful and Curtis's film castigates the media, security forces and the Bush administration for extending their power in this way. "It has really touched a nerve with people who realise something is not quite right with the way terrorism has been reported."
