"The mission will be a success, and 20 or 30 years from now historians will look back on the mission to Iraq as America's golden moment."

2. At what cost, victory?
How many American lives?
How many self-repressed freedoms?

I know that failure is not an option, but where lies the point when what we are fighting for no longer exists?

"He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression;for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."
- Thomas Paine

7. He and the other Bushlers are trying to lay the seeds
and write future history. The whole thing has been such a cluster*uck that they all know that it is time to start projecting the future for an ignorant public. Pretty soon history books will start referring to it as the "golden" times in Iraq brought you by Haliburton, eh, I mean the US military.

12. You got it
As George Orwell said: "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." In this case of Bush he's controlling the present so he can (try) to control the future. Not only for himself but for this part of our history as well.

9. he's deranged - utterly mad
This is wrong on so many levels, so deceptive, so completely out of the range of a sane mind.

Is torturing innocent people a "golden moment"? Killing women and children with impunity a "golden moment"? Lying to the American public a "golden moment"?

This just makes your head explode.

Our President was never the sharpest bulb in the tool shed, but lately he seems to have really lost it.

Back on vitamins maybe?

Not "Golden Moments"

The intergalactic carnival freak-show that IS the Iraq War, unmitigated slaughter of innocents, plundering the precious resources of a sovereign nation, grandstanding in the face of the world's hatred, etc., etc.

THIS is a "Golden Moment"

Unfucking believeable. Rice, in San Francisco, said almost the same thing. Her transcript was not on the state department site last I checked; with the holiday, probably will not be there till Tuesday.

This must be the operative buzz phrase for the weekend.

Watch the Sunday morning funnies to confirm.

27. I watched that speech live -- applause was tepid, at best
In some of the applause breaks, the clapping was coming from a couple of dozen folks.

That speech was NOT well received.

GWB was clearly not prepared for such a reception.
