David Geffen forced to let public use Malibu beach
The cameras were rolling and one of Hollywood's biggest producers was watching.

And on Thursday, an excited group was auditioning for what could be this summer's hottest feature: Malibu beach-going.........

1. so after 22 years he finally did what was legally required
and they're toasting him for it? (I wasn't familiar with this case before, so I'm not sure if I'm reading that right ...)

7. and only until Labor Day? It should be open all the time at his expense
It seems to me, if he's going to build an estate that cuts off access to public land, he should have to provide access to that land.

Access that's open all the time. That he should have to pay for.

9. With any luck,Mother Nature will take care of his estate.
Every few years abnormally high tides take care of "estates".

18. Depends where
We used to rent a cheap beach place north of Bar harbour when the kids were small...I remember a similar rich bitch, who barked at us for walking ten feet above the high tide mark on our way back home. No markers...but we should have known better. Unfortunately, there's virtually no erosion up there...rocky beaches.

5. The beautiful Malibu beach will be available
to the hard-working employees of the beach homeowners, the people who buy all the products, the common folks who go to the movies and the general public as IT SHOULD BE! The beach is all of ours not Mr. "Dreamworks" Geffen!, I will just toddle on over this weekend...

8. so generous of him to let people
sit on the wet sand areas...what a chump

Beachgoers will be permitted on the sand on the ocean side of the mean high tide line in front of the other multimillion-dollar homes that line Carbon Beach. Generally speaking, that translates to "wet sand" areas, according to officials.

10. In Oregon, all beaches are public property and must be
open to the public at all times. This really fries some of the wannabe lords of the manor, but the law has held for decades.

Of course, hurricanes sweep the beaches clear every once in a while. Hurricane Season starts June 1st!

16. In Michigan City, the beach homes totally block even the VIEW
and what "access" there was, were mostly rickety little wooden steps down steep embankments.
I always loved it when Lake Michigan got "cranky", and started sweeping those 5 story behemoths into the lake.

One time there was even an "urgent plea" for assistance and 'rip-rap' for building emergency sea-walls to 'save' the homes..

A lady wrote a fantastic LTTE..paraphrasing here..

"Let the rich waterfront-home owners cobble together all their 'warning' signs, and make a barrier with them"..then she listed the signs..

Private Property
Keep Out
No Trespassing
No Public Access
Private
No Parking

17. Notice How I Said "Appears To Be Winning".
I think the courts have given beach-goers a whole 3 yards of beach to freely walk upon. Pathetic. When I was a kid, my friends and I used to make late night trips out to Grand Haven or Holland. It was great fun to urinate on these so-called private beaches.

14. There've been battles in Connecticut for years
where certain affluent towns like Greenwich and Westport try to keep the riff-raff from neighboring towns from using their beaches. They've been successful using tactics like issuing stickers to residents, restricting parking and charging huge daily fees. Greenwich lost a court case where they refused entrance to a beach area to a jogger. A while back a hurricane damaged the beach in Greenwich, but the town refused federal funds for repairs because it was afraid this might be used against them in their fight to keep people out.

almost all beaches are private. and where the public does have access, the sheriffs zealously patrol the boundary.
