Marine tank's biblical name draws hefty criticism
"New Testament": It's a mighty name for a 70-ton battle tank.

The biblical words are neatly printed on the main gun of an M1A1 Abrams tank rolling along somewhere near Haditha, Iraq. To the Marines of the 4th Tank Battalion, "New Testament" is a fierce beacon and impervious to insurgent mortar fire.
...
"When our own military seems to be advertizing an explicitly Christian identity in Iraq, then it's time took action. Whoever in the marines allowed this tank to be defaced in this way needs to be removed from his post. It's an outrage -- to both the New Testament and to our mission in Iraq," Andrew Sullivan, senior editor at the New Republic, wrote Tuesday at his own Web site (www.andrewsullivan.com).

Filmmaker Michael Moore cited the story, posting the photo online (www.michaelmoore.com) with the Marine directive, "This image has been cleared for release."

6. Hey, no need to insult Hunter Thompson!
He'd find this as ugly and dumb as anyone, I'm sure. :)

16. Well, that's pretty much the point
Insult? Au contraire! :)

It's the logical extention of living in a country 200 million used-car salesmen with home arsenals and one big old collective anger management problem.

5. Yup, that's what I have been thinking.

If they had intentionally wanted to piss off the entire Muslim world at the USA for years to come, it's hard to think how they could have gone about it any differently.

3. That
is both stupid on practical grounds and offensive.
As we all know, Jesus was a gung-ho dude who loved war.

4. Sadly enough...
I bet an overwhelming majority of Americans have not heard about that tank, or if they have, don't see what the problem is.

We seriously need a "duh" smilie. I'd use it so very often.

TO THE FREEPERS: This means we are leading a crusade in iraq. Probably not a good idea, unless we are trying to impose Christianity on the rest of the world. Don't think every country will allow us to invade them and push religious beliefs of our administration on them.

7. I could see OLD Testament
that's where all the killin' and pillagin' and rapin' takes place, but NEW testament? how is that intimidating? I mean I can see writing "love thy neighbor" on the barrel, kinda an ironic thing, but this is pretty weak.

12. I think they meant to say...
I think they meant to say... "New New Testament"

The neochristo-fascists have suplanted the Biblical NT message of love with the new dispensation of phallic war-horror, oppression, mayhem, and greed.

God, it's amazing just how "ignant" this nation of sheep has fallen!

Praise the Lord and pass the ammo!

13. Who would Jesus bomb?
Edited on Fri May-27-05 10:48 AM by DanCa
David Rorvics says this best right here
in his Song who would jesus Bomb.

Maybe Jesus would bomb the Syrians
'Cause they're not Jews like him
Maybe Jesus would bomb the Afghans
On some kind of vengeful whim
Maybe Jesus would drive an M1 tank
And he would shoot Saddam
Tell me, who would Jesus bomb?

If you want to read the rest of the music hear are the links

Have I told you how much I really hate this Fristian embryo lovers today?

15. Next thing you know,
the tanks will (generally) be call "Crusaders".

If that name doesn't demonstrate that at least some of the troops believe this is a religious war, then I don't know what does.
