Fundie wingnuts at AFA attack Arlen Specter and mock his CANCER

<snip>
Senator Specter apparently wants a place on your wall. Here's why he shouldn't get the chance.

Pick your poster child: Arlen Specter, bald from chemotherapy treatments for Hodgkin's disease, saying that he is Exhibit A for embryonic stem-cell research ... or those cute little kids in the AP photo with this caption: "President Bush appeared at the White House with babies and toddlers born of test-tube embryos, some wearing shirts that read 'former embryo.'"

"I look in the mirror every day," says Specter, "barely recognize myself. And not to have the availability of the best of medical care is simply atrocious."

Meanwhile, President Bush was busy praising a Christian agency that helps couples adopt frozen embryos. Amidst 21 babies and toddlers who began their lives as frozen embryos left over after fertility treatments, the president said, "there is no such thing as a spare embryo."

So, again, pick your poster child. The man with a disease who thinks there is vast medical potential in destroying babies described as embryos, or the children who developed from their embryonic state to roll around on White House carpet.
<snip>

I simply hate these people. Hate them. I can disagree with Repubs on things like taxes and even Iraq but respect their humanity. These far right cavepeople are slime and I would rejoice if the Earth swallowed these liars who call themselves Christians while dishonoring everything Christ preached.

1. Oh, that's awful!
And that 'adopting embyos' thing is just contemptible!

God bless Arlen - may he successful heal!

And we need to encourage embryonic stem cell research!

These people have gone so far over the line!

I warned people though. Most DUers think later-term abortions when talking generally about the term 'abortion.' A Religious-Reicher believes that embryos need protected - at the same time they are killing off funds for the foster grandparenting program, Medicaid, etc., etc.

13. As A Pennsylvanian
I must say that I proudly have cast my votes for Arlen Specter. The man EARNED my votes, and is the ONLY Republican ever to do so.

I remember when I went to his office in Washington in 1997, to talk about some issues of importance to me. He took the time to see us, personally...he listened to our viewpoint, he took good notes, he was attentive, kind, and courteous to us...and he even agreed with us, and supported our efforts. He voted our way on the legislation, too. It didn't pass, but he supported us.

Most other Republicans that my group saw threw us out of their offices, or rushed us out...we could tell they thought we were freaks, and they didn't want to be in the same room as us. Santorum, in fact, DID throw us out of his office, threatening to call the Capitol Police if we did not leave. And we had arranged an appointment in advance!!

We were lobbying, at the time, for ENDA, the Emploment Non-Discrimination Act...and specifically, for a transgender-inclusive ENDA. My entire group was crossdressers and transsexuals.

Arlen treated us with dignity and respect. More than I can say for any other Reoublican.

Be well, Senator Specter! My prayers are with you! And it's real DOGSHIT the way some are mocking your cancer. I was not, alas, able to vote for Senator Specter this last time he ran, I was, at the time, not a resident of Pennsylvania. But I DID vote for him in 98, I also encouraged my mom to vote for him this time out. I suspect, one way or another, this will be his last term...but I'd vote for him again if he chose to run.

Arlen is a good man, who has earned my support and my respect.

And that comes from a full-tilt boogie, radical, pinko, lefty, commie pinko yellow-dog Democrat. But Arlen...while I do not agree with some of his stances...the man has earned my respect, and my support.

Again, be well, Arlen!

Mr. Specter than the kids. It's a non-story to me. There is tragedy everywhere; that's what life is about.

6. Specter is a live, breathing, thinking, feeling human being.
He belongs to the wrong party, and has his share of disgraceful political activities.

But an embryo is just an amoeba with potential.

How did that Monty Python song go? "Every sperm is sacred . . ."

that could be helped with stem cell research? Do they count?

8. Remember, the Pharisees aren't pro-life, they're pro-birth.
They don't give a flying fuck what happens to any form of life once its out of the ol' birth canal.

12. Everyone counts, and I think that's the point.
You can't pick who is more righteous or 'good' to get the stem cells, but if they were available to everyone, what a great thing! FWIW, my stepson needs them desperately.

15. Everyone does count.
The distinction is "everyone" is a community of living, breathing human being vs. an organized set of cells that could fit in the area of the period at the end of this sentence.

The RW uses images very effectively...we need to turn those images back on them. They are irrational in their arguments and we cannot let public policy be driven by ignorant political opportunists.

9. Hypocrits
And they have the nerve to call themselves "Christians." I may not agree with Specter, but to kick a person when they are down...

...wait a minute, isn't that what their "heros" in Iraq did to the prisoners???

Humph. Typical. Sad. Their karmic fate will be to develop a disease which could be treated by stem-cell research.

19. Maybe the 2nd Amendment is a good thing after all.
If the Cold Civil War that that Fascist RWingers amd Fundies are engaged in turns hot I want to buy an AK47. I did earn sharpshooter in the Army, so I would only need to practice for a week or so before I was proficient with this.

21. I'm not exactly Arlen Specter's biggest fan
Mostly because of that magic bullet nonsense and his part in covering up what was then the greatest crime committed against the American people by their own government.

But in any event, I was shocked when I saw him on C-SPAN recently. I had no idea the man had cancer. I've seen two friends go bald in recent months for similar reasons. One of them still is. And I wouldn't wish the shit on anybody. Not even Emperor Chimpatine himself.

I look at the eyes of this asshole "Matt Friedman" on that page, and I see deep raging hatred in those eyes. Hatred that makes a joke of a man's suffering from a terrible disease. There's no Christian love present in that son of a bitch. But why should that be surprising coming from someone who actually believes George Bush Jr is "pro life"

These people make the baby Jesus cry. Check "Doctor" Friedemann's other articles- if he is typical we needn't worry about President Guiliani, because he would support the gays and abortion rights.

24. I cannot find the words
They simply don't exist yet. It's beyond revulsion and disgust. Specter and other moderates in the GOP have become whipping boys/girls for these empty evil people whenever they fail to toe the line.

Big tent my Aunt Suzie's ashcan.

They mock a man fighting for his life, knowing full well that millions of these cells are discarded or destroyed.

Get well Arlen, pay these small people no mind.
