Did you know that there are 8000 frozen embryos available for research?
I heard a guy on Washington Journal yesterday (?) who founded a bio-tech lab. He use to be in Congress, but I can't remember his name. He said if they could just have the available 8000 embryos that are going to be thrown in the garbage ANYWAY, they would never need another embryo for research! They would have more than enough stem cells to do research. What is wrong with the repukes? The embryos could save LIVES! They would rather throw them in the garbage. :grr:

6. It really is.
One of the repuke arguments has always been that scientists would just create embryos to do their research. THIS kills that little scenario. 8000 embryos could last long enough to find cures, so there would be no need to create more.

5. Makes absolutely no sense to me, and
inflames me as well. I have a stepson who will probably be dead by age 50-he's now 33-because of a disease that could be slowed or stopped if only those stem cells could be used. Talk about enraged!

8. They have no hearts. NONE of them.
It's mind boggling how they can turn their backs on the children who are here and ALIVE! :grr:

7. The Repubs have the perfect angle on this issue.
There are enough people out there that feel have such a strong "pro-life" stance (never mind the fact that they show little concern for starving children in America, dead Iraqis, tortured animals) that this is an easy way for the Repubs to get people out to vote.

In answer to your question, this isn't about being rational - it's about hanging on to their pet issue. Much like Saudi Arabia, if we keep people worried about the invisible enemy (al-qaeda, baby-killing liberal, etc.) they'll be too distracted to realize that they don't have healthcare, job protection, decent schools, and so on.

10. Well, Chimpy said yesterday during his "snowflake baby"...
press conference, that a whopping 140 babies have been born from adopted frozen embryos! That only leaves 7,860 more embryos for us all to run out and adopt.

:sarcasm:

12. 140 babies born from adopted embryos that the parents WANTED!
He is such an idiotic asshole. The embryos we are talking about will be thrown in the garbage. Has he no compassion for the living? NO! He doesn't know the meaning of the word. :grr:

13. Every move they make is a pose, posturing. They like the
image of themselves as protectors of life while in reality they are quite the opposite. Most likely, they don't even realize that about themselves.

15. Yes, they would rather throw them in the garbage
IVF creates thousands of excess embryos which are targeted for destruction whether or not they are used in stem cell research. A ban on embryonic stem cell research will not prevent the destruction of these embryos... it would only prevent them from being used in stem cell research. IVF is responsible for the destruction of embryos, not stem cell research. Where is the outcry against IVF?

The cells extracted from excess IVF embryos to be used in stem cell research could be compared to organs harvested for transplants... the cells/organs are removed prior to removal of life support, or upon the death of the ‘patient’... the ‘patient’ dies, regardless of the harvesting of cells/organs... the question is whether or not the ‘patient’s’ death benefits another life.
