Since when do I have to give my personal medical surgerical information to the government?

Vile shit! How about barring all those soldiers in Iraq from re-entry, after all they killed living breathing human beings. Or are embryos the new fetus and they have more value than certain live people?

23. Just remember. HIPAA is unenforceable overseas
All it takes is for our government to cut an agreement requiring countries to report medical treatments on Americans abroad. Once our domestic health records are standarized in electronic form (the HHS secretary is prattling about this again) it will require only a minor change to HIPAA to make the data available and linkable to REAL ID for interests of national security, and if Homeland Security incidentally notices that you seem to have a medical condition that is treated with stem cell products in Holland, and you've made three trips to Holland this year, well..

Welcome to 1984.

7. DUH-Lay started the debate by calling...
cells in a petri dish "children." They certainly are masters at using buzz words!

As the mother of a child with Type 1 Diabetes, listening to these RW morons is making me nauseous!

I think we are running out of time to send a fax, but this concerned scientist site regarding stem cell research is excellent and informative:

17. I have a 12 year old nephew with juvenile diabetes
Edited on Tue May-24-05 04:32 PM by powergirl
He lives in South Carolina and his parents are die hard evangelical conservatives. They asked me (the crazy liberal aunt)and not their evangelical Christian crowd what they could to to convince the Republicans to promote stem cell research. I was nice, because my nephew is a great kid, and told them that they need to tell their politicos that if they (the evangelicals) aren't going to help their kid, then they will vote for a party who will. So, with their fingers pinching their nose, they are starting to vote for dems.

Is your child doing ok? I donate to jdf every year and I wish your child the very best. :hi:

33. It does seem like conservatives seriously lack....
compassion until some difficulty affects them directly! It sounds like you handled it very well.

My daughter will be 13 next week and was diagnosed 9 years ago. She was very responsible and a very good sport about her diabetes until about a year ago. Now, she is so tired of dealing with it, her blood sugars are pretty out of control and she missed a lot of school this year due to feeling lousy and having ketones. We are taking back responsibility for her blood tests and record keeping to give her a break.

She was crying when we watched the House vote on the embryonic research bill.

When was your nephew diagnosed? Does he have a good support system?

47. My nephew was diagnosed 5 years ago at age 7
He has a good support system and goes to jdf camp in the summers. The only thing that I wish his parents would do (I don't tell them these things because I don't want to be bossy - they've got enough to handle) is take him just a few miles north of where they live to North Carolina - to one of the great children's hospitals for routine evaluations, etc. I'm a mother of three (ages 10, 6, and 3) and I would want my kids to get the best help available. I live in Texas and I scour the Internet for information. I always send my sister-in-law information about insulin pumps, those new wristband things that have insulin (I don't know if they are available for kids or not, etc.).

Your daughter is just acting like any other 13 year old girl. They know more than you - OBVIOUSLY! And she is probably frustrated by all the extra machinations that she has to do just to get through the day. And, again, she's 13! Bless her heart and I'm so sorry that those jack ass Congressmen blindly vote for their self centered agendas while your daughter sobs. I wish I could punch them for you. I wonder if the JDF can arrange a massive demonstration of kids like my nephew and your daughter to march on the capitol and dare them to vote against stem cell research. Just an idea - but what do you think? I'd pick up my nephew and take him there myself!

49. I'm all for your idea!
The JDF does choose a certain number of kids every year to send to Washington as representatives. But, I think a huge march (and let's include other people who could benefit from the research!) would be very effective. I will look into that possibility. :yourock:

12. Then before stem cells, shouldn't the GOPers in congress
outlaw in vitro fertilization?

Afer all, even if these 'extra' embryos aren't used for stem cell related work, they're going to be destroyed! How can the republicans allow this wholesale slaughter?

I mean, the real point is saving these precious 'lives' right?

29. Those frozen embryos have EIGHT CELLS.
EIGHT CELLS, people. That's right eight.

That's it.

They do not in any way, shape, or form resemble a human being. Nothing has formed except eight cells.

Sure, IF they are placed in the right environment and IF they attach to said environment and IF they start growing again and IF they make it THEN they have the possibility of becoming a baby.

But as it stands they are eight cells.

43. My word
You should warn people when you link to scary sites.

"Post-preconceived baby death trauma syndrome (PPBDTS)

...Most women suffer from inexplicable feelings of sadness and irritablity the week before their period....their feelings are due to their bodies' knowledge, on a deep, cellular, subconcious level, that their own precious preconceived baby has died! (The preconceived babies die within a day of coming out of the ovary, if the woman has neglected to provide them with the sperm they need to live.)"

So I guess this means girls should marry right after menarche to save themselves from years of adolescent grief.

From my friend Carl's site:

These people, who stand on the floor our founding fathers stood on, hiding behind their pious podiums, proclaiming their high regard for human life make me sick, for they don't care about human life, only increasing their financial portfolios and selling out the American people through artificial divisions and lies.

39. BAN multiple invitro fertilizations ...

OK then ...

If an embyo is a life, than we have to end the practice of multiple lab ferilizations that end with discard (literally thrown away) embryos.

The stem cell lines will be coming out of South Korea. We will be WAY behind. This is why the corporatists are switching on this issue. The biotech companies see they are being locked out of an entire generation of new medical treatments.

50. Earlier tonight
I told my parents about the bill that passed through Congress and my dad talked about it. I told him the story of a Korean woman who a few years ago or so was in a bad car wreck and earlier this year doctor's injected her with the medicine and she could walk again. So I brought this up and told how it's mostly used for diabetes and Alzheimer's etc. Plus it's not really saving lives if you just turn around and send them to war to die without protection and based on a lie. Total hypocritical.
