1. Switch to Mozilla. ;-)
Seriously, on my home machine with IE I had the same problem. It didn't go away until I upgraded that system to Windows XP. There is a setting in IE -- Tools, Options, Advanced -- look for the "Show Images" checkbox and make sure it's checked. But otherwise it can just act goofy.

2. Try This
If you are using MSIE go to tools > internet options and then click on advanced under multimedia make sure "show pictures" is checked.
