Waco Tribune-Herald has long article on pre-invasion deception (Downing St.Memo prominent)

John Young: That Downing Street aside

By John Young, Opinion page editor

Tuesday, May 24, 2005

It is armed by taxpayers to be a perpetual spin machine. But maybe, just this time, the White House should holster its umbrage.

We speak of the retracted Newsweek story about the alleged abuse of the Quran at Guantanamo Bay.

Everybody else? Let Newsweek have it. The magazine's shabby reporting on a most delicate matter put lives at risk unnecessarily.

Why not let the White House in on the fun? Simple: Because, like CBS and Dan Rather, it has no room to talk.
