2. The sound an awful lot like our own purists, don't they?
As the French say, "Les extrèmes se touchent."

4. Hey, dude. We're not all purists.
By NO means. This is the first time I've been truly miffed by the Dems -- because I honestly believe that Frist did NOT have the votes. If there had been a showdown, I believe we would have come out better than this.

Please don't assume that those of us disappointed by this deal are Naderites or whatever.

I just think this deal does is put the nuclear option down the road a bit -- and in exchange for NOT dropping it on us today, we let them have their wackjob judges.

But heck... I'll gloat if it pisses the Freepers off.

NANANANNA! WE WON! WE WON!

:woohoo:

7. Frist DID have the votes.
Dewine said he would have nuked the filibuster, and Graham, by his utterances today, revealed that he probably would have as well.

That's, at best, 50-50, with Cheney as the tiebuster.

And, of course, Frist will try it again in the future. THIS time, however, there are seven puggies on record at least tactly opposing the nuke option. Some may well flip, but they do so at their own peril.

The dynamics have changed. There is no longer the perception of a unified puggie support for this, and that's clearly demoralizing to the right wing.

3. Here's the Rub:
Instead of giving the money to the Rats, why not just donate the money to a real conservative 3rd party, like the American Independence Party or Constitution Party? Then we would get REAL conservative politicians to represent us.

All we need is 1% in the right places.

5. My, my, they do seem to be unhappy in Freeperland
I'm not crazy about the compromise but they do seem to be taking it pretty badly over there.

If the Freepers, Hannity, Buchanan, Limbaugh etc. don't like it it can't be all bad.

8. I don't think you understand...
... they got less than they wanted and so they're mad. That doesn't make the deal a win for us.

It is their job to keep their side fighting. As long as there's one dollar left in the hands of the poor the corporate media will be screaming about how unfair it is and encouraging their listeners to find that dollar and return it to the wealthy where it rightly belongs.

Their gnashing of teeth over that last dollar is not a sign that we're winning.

Same with their (possibly ingenuine) display of anger over the compromise.

9. first time the Spoiled Children
didn't get what they wanted 100 percent were FORCED to compromise.

I don't see this as a loss, is it a huge win? No.

You might very well get your shut down when Supreme court Noms come up.

11. First time or not....

... they will not be gracious about their less then 100% win. Look at how they threatened judges over Terry Schiavo after getting specialized legislation and more than customary judicial oversight.

"You might very well get your shut down when Supreme court Noms come up."

But I don't want a shut down. I want reasonable judges. If this agreement does not improve the calibre of the judges that get on the bench then it is a loss for America. As it is we're 3 judges down by my count.

I think it would be easy for the GOP to manipulate this agreement to work against us. They just have to reach down further into the barrel for even less appealing (to us) nominees thereby forcing a series of filibusters that provide them with the political cover to go nuclear on a supreme court nominee with full public support.

This compromise might be a win for America, but it's not yet. This ball is still very much in play.

12. I still don't feel better...
There is only one solution... we need to part ways... they can have Bush, we will have Kerry, they want to use our tax money to commit mass murder but not to conduct life saving research using frozen tootsie rolls, fine... they can do that, we will conduct research. They want to have religion taught in schools and not science, fine, let them do that.

Look, there is no way to live with these people. They only care about guns, pre-living, and already dead... they do not care for this country, the Constitution, rule of law, or the living. They don't care about the millions they have killed in their global reach for power.

How many more Iran Contras, Watergates, et al do we need before we say just because we share a continent, we need not be of one country?

I think it is time to divorce and I don't think anyone on that side will object, given that they see us "OJ Simpson" and "terrorists". In fact, I think they will be thrilled. I know I would be thrilled.

They can let their elderly starve but it won't be with our money. Ta da, problem solved.

The only question is who gets what land... frankly, I say we keep the northern states and move all dems in the southern states up north.

I just don't see how we can live in the same country together with these people anymore.

14. They won't go for that. They want your slave labor.
They don't want to own the USA, they want to own the goddamn Universe. They'll annex even the Platonic World of Ideas if left unchallenged.
