The International Criminal Court at the Hague?
I understand this would be a Neocon Nightmare and we couldn't drag Bush kicking and screaming to the table on this one. But do we have any of our own leaders who, in some distant future, envision us as part of and even accountable to the Human Race?
I realize that for most Americans the thought of being part of any institution we don't own (unlike the UN) turns their stomach, but some of us would like to see things like War Crimes tried in a real impartial manner. Perhaps some international standards for basic justice...a reduction in the sheltering of select criminals...an international means of prosecuting Enronesque, multinational CEOs who rape and pillage countries and peoples.
I suppose this is a non-winner issue in any election...but I'd still like to see some of our leaders have the worldview that makes us part of (rather than owner of) something like the world court.
Do we have any Democratic Leaders who see this as a cause, or is it just us fringy bloggers and ...oh...the rest of the world that think it might be an important issue?
