Priscilla Owen . Who is she and what has she done?
On this thread I want to hear why moderate (or reasonable) Republicans should NOT vote for her....

And I want to hear why "crossing over" for her would be political suicide for our own right wing...

1. See my post (#10) in this thread...

It is not a great deal of info, but it is a basic primer on a lady that would rule against her momma, if it served the interest of business.

2. She's a corporate whore of the highest magnitude.
She never met an individual plaintiff she liked or a corporation she didn't love.

She has reversed jury awards for corporate wrongdoing on numerous occasions. She has ruled in favor if insurance companies when they failed to pay claims which several courts had alread ruled were legitimate.

In short, she's a CEO's wet dream, and a legitimate victims worst nightmare.

8. So . . She protects killer corporations?
Gives companies a "pass" when they hurt +/or kill people......

And lets them consider this just part of "the cost of doing business", or collateral damage.

3. Well there's this
From the following link:

For all the conservative talk against judicial activism, Frist and other conservatives should know that Owen has a long record of extremist decisions; her own hometown paper described her as "all too willing to bend the law to fit her views, rather than the reverse." In fact, in reference to one of Owen's dissents, then colleague and fellow Texas Supreme Court Justice Alberto Gonzales went so far as to describe the decision's proposed interpretation of the law as "an unconscionable act of judicial activism." Indeed, in critiquing her nomination, The Houston Chronicle took issue not with her being "too conservative" but with the fact that "she too often contorts rulings to conform to her particular conservative outlook." As the San Antonio Express stated, "The senate should not block a judicial nominee simply because he or she is more conservative or more liberal than the Senate's majority party.… But concerns about Owen go to the heart of what makes a good judge."

7. So... no respect for precedent?
Should a Judge have such little interest in the law?

There is a good point in here about how she was rejected once by the judicial comittee only to be nominated again by Bush, something that to their knowledge has never occurred.

But the most salient argument is this - According to her own conservative colleagues on the Texas Supreme Court, including justices appointed by then Governor Bush, Owen had written or joined many dissents that would have effectively rewritten or disregarded the law, usually to the detriment of ordinary citizens.....

.....Justice Owen's judicial record, particularly her record of dissents, indicates that she is a judicial activist who would allow her right wing ideology to trump her responsabilities as a judge to follow the law, not make it.

So apparantly even conservative judges think she goes to far and sees the law in her image, not the image of the legislature.

Given that, even Senators like Rick Santorum should be voting against her.

10. Even Alberto Gonzales called her a judicial activist:

when he stated that adopting her opinion "would be an unconscionable act of judicial activism."
