1. I think it dealt a blow to both...
...the far right and the far left. Now we'll see if the Gang of Fourteen can become the powerbrokers of the senate for the next year or so, and if they do, it will make everybody concerned look much better in the eyes of the voters. Lindsay Graham said tonight that this group is going to propose a Social Security compromise plan. That will be one of their big tests.

But certainly Frist took a huge blow tonight. He'd staked his future on being able to ram those judges through by destroying the filibuster, but he underestimated how highly the reputable senators hold their office. I think Lindsay Graham might be a big winner if he plays his cards right, but McCain will never win nationally. Also watch Crowe and Collins of Maine. They are a couple Republicans even *I* can love... :)

2. It seems like it will make
McCain the presumptive favorite for the Republican nomination.

My guess is it will also help all the senators running for reelection on either side if they were part of the group of 14.

3. Nope. Elections will still be a crooked farce.
But let's still bank our hopes on "winning" one.

LOL ...

4. Nope.
The eventual nominee is probably still lurking in the background. The ones in the spotlight are only making their TV faces tiresome to the public. Sure, it moves things along, but that's the direction it's going in anyway. Frist takes another step in the Schiavo direction, McCain takes another step towards perceived disloyalty. These are not new things.

5. Tell me if I am off base but I was thinking if they had gone Nuclear
they would have really pissed off the American people just like with Social Security. The way it stands now I think it's a wash. Perhaps the Right does not look quite as radical and helped themselves a little.
