Interesting stat...
...From the day that the attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor took place on Dec. 7, 1941, to the day that the U.S. defeated Japan (VJ Day -- "Victory Over Japan" Day) on Aug. 15, 1945, a time period of 1,348 days had elapsed.

Friday, May 20, of this year marks the day that the so-called war on terrorism reached its own 1,348th day (from Sept. 11, 2001), making the duration of the current conflict that our country finds itself engaged in as long as the U.S. involvement in World War II.

1. OMG, that's not interesting, it's amazing!
When you think of WWII, you can kinda break it into campaigns, and further into battles. We've all been taught so much about it, so many stories, so much information, that it seems like those 4 years were a lifetime.

Thanks for posting that. Man, talk about perspective.

2. Perspective is right
Especially when you're talking the difference between communism and a get-rich quick scheme for a select few.

3. Communism?...
...the Communists were our allies in WWII. We were fighting fascism, or as Il Duce described it, "corporatism."

4. Apples and oranges
There is no point in comparing WWII and the WOT. For starters, today the army can't make its recruiting quota. During WWII they had to turn down volunteers.

Also, when Bush declared the war on terror (actually, it was Clinton who first used the phrase so techinically the WOT has been going on a lot longer than 1348 days), he already mentioned that this was was unconventional and may not end in our lifetime.

It's an authoritarian's dream, perpetual war.
