Nuclear victory?
If the blathering heads on TV say its a victory for us - great, let that be the prevailing view. We need a victory. And since the 2004 election, this is the best thing we've seen in a while.

Freepers and Fundies licking their wounds ain't a bad thing to see either. Of course this is a loss for them because they have actually come to believe the crap they hear from Frist and Rush. In their whacked out world, all of these judges should have been rubber stamped long ago. Their hubris bit them in their collective butts.

HOWEVER....

There are a few serious issues for us to deal with because of this:
-The nuclear option is still available.
-The door seems to be open for an up/down vote to happen again in the future (SCOTUS?)
-And what are we going to do about the three nutjobs that are now back in the game? These people shouldn't be considered for dogcatcher, let alone a Federal justice.

One last thought. While this is seen as a victory for us by many, I think it is also a victory for Frist. Before this compromise, Frist had dug himself into a great hole. Now he has a great "out" - 14 Republicans and Democrats. I think he got away with a pie in the face when he should have had a broken nose.

1. You're so right it's scary but you know what...
Maybe you're on to something else. Maybe, just maybe American's will get fed-up w/all of them. I know many Freepers are abandoning the Rethugs, fed-up w/*. The question is, will the Fristicans hang-on.

Don't know how we're going to get through another 3 years of this crap.

4. With Frist's base it was all or nothing. he has actually lost their
support. He wasn't receptive to any compromises. This tactic put his fellow senators in the hot seat. I don't think some of them were happy at all with this maneuver.
I agree, we have to approach this compromise carefully, I do believe however that many senators on both sides did not want to see it come down to this and are happy at this outcome. The repubs weren't happy with us over using the filibuster, but really did not want to see it taken away. I think as long as we are careful when using the filibuster their won't be any objections from the rupubs. IMO, I think the moderate repubs are going to reach out and work with us Dems when possible. I think they have had it with Bush's power plays, threats and extremisms.

7. I wish I had your optimistic viewpoint.
Here's hoping you're right, but I dunno. No. Don't know any more. Feeling past fed-up. Like giving-up w/Dem's.

These judges are Enron judges; Owen's is a Federalist; anti-Social Security; anti-democrat.

I see De-lay getting off under Brown or Owen's jurisdiction. * and * protected just in case. And social security washed down the drain.

10. I don't agree on Frist
He would have done better with the Republican Base of nutty fundamentalists if he had fought it to the bitter end. THey love a martyr. Instead a political rival (McCain) was instrumental in forestalling his glorious victory (or glorious defeat). Bad for Frist, good for McCain (which is also bad for Frist).

11. We use the three crazies they want to vote on as cannon fodder.
We dig up everything we can on them and expose them nationally. Humiliate the right wingers with them.

They wanted the three craziest. Well, I say we take the three craziest and show everyone just how crazy they are.

12. I agree
These 3 need to be exposed. I don't think most people even know how far out of the mainstream they are. They need to know the consequences of confirming these crazies.
