This deal was a draw. The proof is the fact that all the activists on both sides are angry.

A lot of people here and at Daily Kos are very pissed off.

But a lot of GOPers are very pissed off too, on TV and their own websites.

To me, this indicates that the deal was a draw, leaving both sides unhappy.

Understand, though, that the nuclear option has only been delayed, not disarmed. They will try it again with the Supreme Court.

1. When you're outnumbered, a draw is a victory. I'll take it. nt

4. Have you never heard, in a compromise, both sides are pissed!
That's the very definition of a compromise!

Coside this a victory! We as Dems as having no leverage at all, and we got a compromise. That's a victory!

5. The radical RW and the Fundies are much more pissed than we are
I call that a mild victory. There is also the possibility that the Republican party might fracture right down the middle. This could easily end up being a gigantic victory over time.

8. 99% of freeps are furious, 1/3 of DU is pissed
1/3 of DU is ALWAYS pissed. BFD. Dobson is humiliated, Frist castrated, the Filibuster remains and we gave up votes on 3 judges, at least one of whom will likely lose.

9. It's dead. Reid won.
The Republicans have admitted that the filibuster is a legitimate legislative tool. They'd have to invent a whole new rationale for killing it now. They'd look like complete morons. They're ready to move on to the corporate wing's agenda--the judge thing hasn't played all that well for them back home. Harry played them for the chumps they are.

10. Pierce, Prior and Owens are no longer "exceptional"
How, how, how does this constitute a draw? The other side moved the ball. First and goal in my view, with the SCOTUS on the line.

I really don't care about Frist's presidential ambitions. I'm concerned now about the nominees to the SCOTUS. And we just gave up big yardage today.

11. Reminding voters of who wanted to push the nuke option
would be a good thing.
We wouldn't have had this fight if not for
Frist, Cheney, Bush et al.

12. Corporations and the NRA won, the people lost this way as wellas the Frist
way. If the filibuster was put up for a vote, we would have seen what the real deal was.
I bet this a great day for Ken Lay.
