Mixed feelings about the filibuster deal
We keep the filibuster: Good.

Bush gets the two biggest Nazis he's nominated, Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown, confirmed to lifetime seats on the federal appeals court: Bad.

Free Republic goes into total meltdown: Even better.

Two goods, one bad: Sounds like a passable day.

1. Put it this way:
could have been a LOT worse.

If you walk away from a compromise thinking it was alright, but you could have done better: you probably couldn't have.

6. It could have been a little better, too
We could have given Bush two judges who don't need to be disbarred like Owen and Brown do.

2. Four goods..
James Dobson has a melt down and so does Hannity. I think the right wing is imploding.

9. The right wing has been prepped to implode for some time now
I keep looking for that one thing that will push them over the edge. So far nothing's worked.

3. One of those two may not pass the Senate
Don't count Rove's buzzards before they hatch!

4. With me

I'm a bit more pissed I think. A girl Emailed in Malloy and she basically summed it up. She said "you promise not to end the filibuster, we'll promise not to use the filibuster. Same results different means." from Reid. Another girl said she thinks this whole thing was a setup by the republicans to show the democrats don't want to compromise.

5. We're outnumbered. Our victory is them not having 100% their way. nt

7. There is that...
The ideal situation would have been straight up/down on the two least-rotten judges, standard confirmation hearings on five judges, and withdrawal of Priscilla and Janice.

So long as Bush has Priscilla Owen to remand lawsuits against him to, Bush has gotten everything he needed.

8. But if this really was about the SC, we live for the big fight. At least,
that's how I see it. nt
