I think the democrats blew it big time
I think the democrats blew it today. A caller called in Malloy's show and told how there's a Senate rule that said if the "nucler option" happened they could've brought ANY, ANY!, bill straight up to the top without going through all the votes. Think of what could've happened with this! Banning all voting machine's all over, health care for those who don't have it and need it, getting out of Iraq! Why did Harry Reid go along with this?!?!?! They could've forced an up or down vote and showed how the republicans really are to the public and we could've won a lot of seats next year and impeached the bastards in the White House. Now what chance do we have???

1. The caller was wrong
By current senate rules, any senator can ask for the text of a bill to be read. It's merely courtesy that prevents it.

2. Or else the public would have turned on us for closing down
the Senate with frivilous bills with no chance in Hell of passing. Don't forget, people don't learn about the Senate by watching C-Span. They learn by watching CNN and Fox, who spin.

3. Not good
The polls said two things:
Judges should get an up or down vote
Rules should not be changed

So now The Repugs get their bad option taken care of and the Dems still have to live up to theirs. Now the Repugs look moderate.

4. Can someone explain to me, like I was a six year old
WTF we won?

Owens and Brown cannot be filibustered, which means these two extreme judges will be sitting on high benches.

I am begining to believe the whole "Nuclear Option" was a set-up from the gitgo.

5. That is backwards. The minority keeps their rights. The brownshirts lost.
The GOP just endorsed the filibuster after saying for months and months that the minority should have the filibuster right taken away.

11. What rights? The GOP can still implement at any time the nuclear option &
take away the filibuster rule!

Please - explain to me what we won?

15. Yeah keep telling yourself that crap. The minority got shit on.
The Repugs will just go nuclear again at a later time whenever they deem it necessary. They'll claim the Democrats are violating the agreement by filibustering a good conservative not an "extremist".

This is the same stupidity as the IWR. The Democratic idiots went along because the Repugs swore war was the "last resort". Of course it was the first resort, but the idiotic Democrats fell for it as usual.

More of the same from our Democratic Losership.

6. They could have introduced legislation and have it read on the floor
but they couldn't force and action be taken on it. It's one of the ways we had of slowing down the senate and obstructing the repubs, but it was never a real tool for positive change in the senate. It simply served to obstruct and engender more partisanship and emnity.

7. THIS WAS A HUGE DEFEAT FOR DOBSON/FRIST. Frist was
unable to control his caucus and the side (ours) who is outgunned by ten Senate seats still retains the right to filibuster. Folks, this is a very big win for us. Harry Reid played Frist like a violin. There is very high-pitched squawking and shrieking on the 'right' about this.

9. Keep telling yourself that...
I live in the jurisdiction of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Priscilla Owen is about to be rubberstamped as a judge on the court. We are SO screwed, America!!

8. Make a deal w/ the Devil & you pay dearly every time! The Dems & Mods just
delayed the inevitable and frankly the Republicans got exactly what they wanted....The vote on the judges they want and they still retain the nuclear option....

I think this will later one day be remembered as when the Democrats "blinked" in the game of chicken....

I don't consider this a win at all....just like when I ran into Boxer on Friday and told her not to compromise, I told her that any deal with the Republicans would only be regretted later and similar to the United Airlines Management cutting a deal with the United employees and Unions and then later going to court and getting the agreed upon pension plan tossed out, the Republicans will ultimately screw the Dems in the end...

In some ways, I think this is worse than if the nuclear option had been implemented....it might have served as the wake up call to America and the Senate would have been a mess and the only people to blame would be none other than the GOP. Now, well, what do we REALLY have now?

10. I pretty much agree.....
Now we will have a One party rule, without it looking like a One party rule. I am really worried now.

Using the Nuclear option would have given the American people the strength to Nuke those incumbents. Now, we have nothing....but a filabuster that we can't even use!

When Lieberman is involved, there's no doubt a deal has been made with the devil.
