Whoa! Dobson speaks!
From AmericaBlog:

James Dobson is not happy:

"This Senate agreement represents a complete bailout and betrayal by a cabal of Republicans and a great victory for united Democrats. Only three of President Bush’s nominees will be given the courtesy of an up-or-down vote, and it's business as usual for all the rest. The rules that blocked conservative nominees remain in effect, and nothing of significance has changed. Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Antonin Scalia, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist would never have served on the U. S. Supreme Court if this agreement had been in place during their confirmations. The unconstitutional filibuster survives in the arsenal of Senate liberals.

"We are grateful to Majority Leader Frist for courageously fighting to defend the vital principle of basic fairness. That principle has now gone down to defeat. We share the disappointment, outrage and sense of abandonment felt by millions of conservative Americans who helped put Republicans in power last November. I am certain that these voters will remember both Democrats and Republicans who betrayed their trust."

45. Would eat them alive.?
You mean, have been eating them alive!

I almost feel sorry for them, almost.

Now if the religious right would just form their own party. There is what roughly 30 percent of them in the country? Which means they Can never be elected again, I'd feel much better.

This was all about the judge's and other bills (such as the Patriot Act and part two) that would've made it through anyways.

6. mo' preachin'
Gather' round me,

Gather 'round me
While I preach some,
Feel a sermon
Comin' on me.
The topic will be sin
And that's what I'm agin.'
If you wanna
Hear my story,
Then settle back
And just sit tight
While I start reviewin'
The additude of doin' right.
You've got to
Accent-tchu-ate the positive,
E-lim-my-nate the negative,
Latch on to the affifmative,
Don't mess with Mister In-between.
You've got to spread joy
Up to the maximum,
Bring gloom down to the minimum,
Have faith, or pandemonium
Li'ble to walk upon the scene.
To illustrate my last remark,
Johah in the whale, Noah in the Ark,
What did they do
Just when everything looked so dark?
"Man" they said,
"We better
Accent-tchu-ate the positive,
E-lim-my nate the negative,
Latch on
To the affirmative,
Don't mess with Mister In-between."
No, don't mess with Mister In-between.

15. Dobson says he was "betrayed," that the "cabal" of Republicans who --
-- did Frist in are guilty of "betrayal."

But of whom?

Of Dobson and his extremist lunatic-fringe nutcase Christian fundamentalist shit-for-brains nazis. And frankly I don't care if they feel betrayed or not.

They can dish it out in Colorado Springs and Kansas and so on, so they better learn to take it when McCain (who is by no means a liberal) disagrees with them.

That's really all that happened. 14 senators disagreed with Frist who was fronting for Dobson. Boo hoo hoo.

18. What kind of revisionist history is this?
The Democrats could have blocked Thomas, Scalia and Rehnquist with a filibuster, but chose not to do so. I'm not sure I agree with that tact, but enough Democrats felt there was nothing to be gained by attempting to block those nominations that they let them pass.

The rules at the time of those nominations are no different than they are now. What makes Dr. Dobson think they were any different then?

One other point to make concerns Dr. Dobson's abuse of the English language. He is no more a conservative than Attila the Hun. These right wing morons should learn to use the correct words.

20. If this manages to let out
the "real" Republicans then I suppose I will feel better. They have for too long been held by the religious right and the NeoCons and now apparently they want out from under that huge thumb.

So the "real" Republicans come out from under the thumb, the NeoCons and TheoCons lose their support. Bush's** poll numbers suck and continue to get worse. I still don't like what happened today but if it has pushed this result we may be OK in the long run.

27. I think it's a good thing.
Many republicans will follow these moderates; they are moderate too. The wacko fringe right for too long has controlled the repub party; the moderates' standing up to them will give many repubs an alternative vision--moderates stand in relief to the crazoids, thereby accenting the lunacy of the fringe.

21. Someone needs to tell James Dobson
. . .that he can't even run his own organization effectively, and no one nominated him or appointed him to run our country.

I wish these extremist crazies would stop getting so much airtime. . .frankly, their opinions shouldn't mean any more than anyone else's. So what if they have a herd of sheep? He can pray to Moses, part the Pacific Ocean, and take them to China for all I care.

30. So my husband says
The Dobson statement was a "smoke-screen" and made to make the Dems feel as if they had gained something. He wears his :tinfoilhat: at all times.

Dobson refers to the "millions of conservative Americans who helped put Republicans in power." Obviously, he hasn't read the public opinion polls on the nuclear option. Apparently, a good number of those Republicans he spoke of didn't believe their vote gave congress the power to abolish the senate rules.

Why look at polls when God is on your side! (sarcasm)

Religious fundementalist surround themselves with no one outside of their world. We might pollute them, so he probably does feel the majority of repubs are on his side. Maybe they'll break away and found their own party.

I would almost think that, too, BUT
a negotiator uses that "oh, you really kicked my butt" reverse psychology when he WANTS the deal, but doesn't want you to know he wants it.

Dobson doesn't want this deal. He wanted the pure power grab of the nuclear option.

Dobson's one and only job is to stir up the religious right, and the prime method of doing that is by telling them they are being attacked and threatened. He's going to make the deal sound as bad as possible for the Repugs, so they will get all fired up and murderous.

44. But not all repugs are part of the religious right.
The corporate repugs and the NRA did not want to end the filibuster; when dems are in power, the filibuster is what they depend on. They don't want the Senate to change. The religious right is scaring the shit out of the moderates; they know Dobson would eat them alive along with us. I think we're seeing the beginnings of some backlash.

on how this "extraordinary circumstances" thing works out.

Angry liberals seem to think that a select few right-wingers get to decide what constitutes "extraordinary," while the angry right-wingers seem to think that "extraordinary circumstances" is a phrase that means little and can't be enforced.

I have to admit, I'm a little hazy on what it means, who or what can stop a filibuster, etc.

33. He's right.
Senate Republicans sold out the religious right on their precious SCOTUS appointment. That's over--ain't gonna be no wingnut Supreme Court nominee this time around. Frist is toast--all his public genuflecting on "Justice Sunday" was pure bullshit, and Dobson's calling him on it. The corporate wing of the Republican party is much more interested in advancing its real agenda: permanent tax cuts for the rich, elimination of the estate tax, and Social Security privatization. Of course, the Democrats are in no way obliged to play ball--they can stall, stall, stall until 06, at least. This is a huge victory for Harry Reid--the Democrats have bluffed the Republicans out of their socks.
