Bill "Dobson's Beeyotch" Frist tries to save face; FReepers are crazed
Edited on Mon May-23-05 09:07 PM by johnfunk
From the Crooks and Liars Blog:
Frist immediately went on the floor to give a speech. He's definetly not happy.

Video-WMV

This is important:

Kevin Drum notes: UPDATE: In comments, NSF reports that Lindsey Graham claims that of the three who will get votes (Brown, Owen, and Pryor), one will end up getting defeated on a bipartisan basis. A secret codicil? Hmmm.....

Ralph G. Neas isn't happy with everything in the compromise but says: " The unprincipled nuclear option has been averted. This is a major defeat for the radical right. Senators from both parties have rejected demands by the White House, radical right groups, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist that the filibuster be eliminated on nominees. It is a rejection of White House demands for virtually unlimited power to undermine the independence of the courts."

Political Wire says Instant analysis: McCain is the big winner; Sen. Bill Frist is the loser.

Definitely worth a full read -- and check out the links, especially the vid of Sen. Bill "James Dobson's Beeyatch" Frist having a hissy! Schweeeeet!

2. If one of the judges will be defeated, this truly IS a victory for us.
Edited on Mon May-23-05 09:10 PM by BullGooseLoony
It will mean that the ONLY thing the Repukes got out of this is two fascist judges. However, WE got their assurance that there will be no filibuster-bust this session, and we get to keep it.

We can use it on any judges nominated for the SC or otherwise later on.

4. And once we take back the Congress....
Today's fascist judicial extremist is tomorrow's impeachment target, most notably Owen, who many believe has lied under oath.

As we said in the days of Tricky Dick, "Impeach with honor."

13. They got one who will probably hear the Enron case in Ca.
so that sucks. But we didn't let Cheney make whatever changes suited his evil little whim, so that was GREAT!
I really needed some good news today. I was getting kind of blue about all this, it looked very bleak from here. Wahoooo! At least we didn't lose!

7. That would be a good thing
as it would gum up the GOP Primary, the fiercer and more drawn out it is makes it better for the Democrats.

8. I don't think so
While this might boost his stock with the general public, it just guarantees that the GOP base will go after him with everything they've got in the primaries.

12. If McCain wins the 2008 primary
the religous right will be unrepresented in the general election!! He would be a really tough opponent, though.

15. not if we do our part to deepen the wedge btwn McCain and the neocons
this was bound to happen to the Republican Party. You have true conservatives at odds with neocons and the moderates are stuck somewhere in the middle. You know things are about to crumble when a bipartisan effort to stop something as severe as the nuclear option is viewed as a horrible action by the party that controls just about every branch of government right now. The extremists that lost today will devour McCain if he runs in 2008. My bet is that Dobson will not forget this anytime soon.

Edited on Mon May-23-05 09:41 PM by Cell Whitman
He was talking about the "middle" and how the extremists lost out.

Tweety is a propagandist. A FANATICAL propagandist.

16. It is really tragic that the Dobsonians are upset. It means we have
absolute proof of their disdain for our country, our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Senate rules of order.

18. Hilarious! Dobson issues statement:
Edited on Mon May-23-05 10:12 PM by johnfunk
Text:
James C. Dobson today issued the following statement, upon the announcement by members of the U.S. Senate that a "compromise" had been reached on the filibuster issue:

"This Senate agreement represents a complete bailout and betrayal by a cabal of Republicans and a great victory for united Democrats. Only three of President Bush's nominees will be given the courtesy of an up-or-down vote, and it's business as usual for all the rest. (More here.)
Translation:
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! BWAA BWAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!
