XM Deal for Air America listeners thinking of switching.....
Edited on Mon May-23-05 07:30 PM by Rosco T.
The Audio Phase SkyBox, a Best Buy Exclusive -

http://www.xmradio.com/skybox/index.jsp

AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 Boombox is on sale now for $99 (down from $149). It qualifies for the 2-for-1 deal, so you could get the Skybox for home/office and the Roady2 for the car BOTH for $99.

effectively $50 a receiver, not shabby.

The Buy-1-Get-1-Free Deal..

http://www.xmradio.com/doubleplay/index.jsp

NOTE: This is not an 'Air America' sponsored deal, but if you're thinking of switching it's a pretty good price.

1. Sorry, still can't afford it
I bought Sirius in December to listen to AAR. I'll be sticking with them and listening to Sirius Left.

6. randi told someone to get sirius the other day
i gotta wonder if she isn't/hasn't made a separate deal. xm is only taking half of her show. that would leave me torn. i am pissed about the whole thing, but especially that they cut a deal that cut randi.

16. SORRY YOU'RE VERY WRONG...
Edited on Mon May-23-05 11:14 PM by Rosco T.
as of RIGHT NOW...

they carry the 1st hours of Schultz
then the last 2 hours of Randi

Malloy is on a Tape Delay till after Colmes, but it carried IN FULL...

that WILL CHANGE (I spent many years in the business and still have some contacts...)

Expect to see 167 being AAR 24/7 in 'realtime' and Shultz and Colmes off on another channel (still in negoiations, it may be a complete second 'left' channel or a 'mixed party' channel..). As a totally unconfirmable data point, I was messing around with one of my SkyFi's and switched to channel 168 (currently unused) from channel 8 and for about 30 seconds, it paused, gave the 'loading' message (accquiring the channel map) and said "168 America Left" with "Ed Schultz", then it jumped back to 8 and I haven't been able to repeat the occurance...

also, the 1st day that 167 was renamed from "America Left" to "Air America" for the 30 minutes of Schultz's show the display said "Randi Rhodes" :)

here's the actual Mon-Fri schedule..

5AM-6AM ET Rachel Maddow Dr. Rachel Maddow
6AM-9AM ET Morning Sedition Marc Maron, Mark Riley, Wayne Gilman
9AM-Noon ET The Jerry Springer Show Jerry Springer
Noon - 3PM ET The Al Franken Show Al Franken, Katherine Lanpher
3PM-5PM ET The Ed Schultz Show Ed Schultz
5PM-7PM ET The Randi Rhodes Show Randi Rhodes
7PM-10PM ET The Majority Report Janeane Garofalo, Sam Seder
10PM-1AM ET The Alan Colmes Show Alan Colmes
1AM-5AM ET Mike Malloy Mike Malloy

7. I talked to an actual XM employee (a fellow I met recently) and he said
for me to 'hold on' to my Sirius because he thinks XM has something cooking in terms of buying out or merging with Sirius.

For what it's worth.

19. more likely Sirius will be going belly up...
they've committed to 500 MILLION in new programming over the next 4 years (Between Howard, Nascar, NFL and Martha) and the word 'inside the business' is that they will probably have to raise their rates before the end of the year.. $14.95/mo is looking probable).

10. $12.95/mo for the 1st receiver, $6.99 for each additional ...
so it averages out to $9.97 each a month.

I don't know how I will be able to live without Malloy and Randi when AAR goes to XM. I just don't think I can. :loveya: This will probably have to be my B-Day gift. ;)

8. I have both
One in the car and one on the truck...

XM does not play all of AAR. They play 2 hours of Ed and the last 2 hours of Randi...

Sirius on the other had plays the whole lineup, Even Franken (Who I find as dull as watching paint dry)

I just find him dull as hell. He is not funny and for the most part I think he has to many guests, and never gets down to the brass tacks of any issues. Just when it is getting good, they are on to another guest.

I got mine a little over a week ago and have the entire lineup. I think they may have just started that right before I got mine because they were not listed on any of the programs I got.

it's a good time to get the XM equipment.. the Roady2 (the freebie) is a good auto receiver...

Edited on Mon May-23-05 11:38 PM by LaPera
subscription is at half price).

One can buy a XM receiver and the rest of the gear for about half price on ebay and which I'll also only most likely get for my Sirius gear, half price.

(If I'm lucky).

LOL!

24. Oh Bullshit...
I've heard that till I'm sick of it, Sirius didn't even attempt to counter the XM offer, AAR is at a point where they need to be PAID for their work and Sirus couldn't afford to, they've about spent themselves in to bankruptcy. I have ears inside the business and "apparently" Sirius lowballed AAR and XM upped the ante big time (not only paying for AAR advertising at XM events and furnishing them state-of-the-art studio space inside the beltway in Washington DC (XM just built an 11 million dollar studio complex) *and* is paying AAR for the content. XM asked for an 'exclusive' deal and Sirius didn't even try to do anything to counter.

Sirius didn't value your listenership. Deal with it.

Edited on Tue May-24-05 01:33 AM by Zinfandel
GREAT!

However, both, advertising as "exclusive", I don't think XM would go for it....They are the satellite boss...even with "Howard" coming to Sirius.

Sirius put up a good fight...Don't count them out....My guess, merger, and then everyones equipment work.

Conglomerates always win out.

28. Not yet .. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)...
Remeber Stephanie is from Jones Radio networks, same as Schultz.. and if they move Big Eddie to a NEW channel, they will have to populate it with SOMETHING now won't they?

(Hmm.. didn't Sirius whack Thom Hartmann down to 1 hour from 3?? Hmm.. don't Stephanie, Thom, Ed flow (time slot wise) from one to another?? Hmmm...)

;)
