Alex Trebeck for president!
Alex - on Jeopardy! - just said, "I believe that if you earn a lot of money you shouldn't mind paying taxes." An idea whose time has come. Too bad Alex is Canadian.

1. He certainly would be able to pronounce "NUCLEAR"
not to mention having an I.Q. above and beyond that of BoyKing.

3. Alex is Canadian ... well that explains it
I have several Canadian friends and they all have the same attitude: those who have should help the have-nots.

Canada: The country America was SUPPOSED to be! :eyes: :-(

4. BattyDem, I couldn't have said it better myself....
All my Canadian friends, from Vancouver to Fredericton, wouldn't trade their health system for ours under any circumstances. I had a colleague at work tell me, "Canada is on the verge of collapse" yeah right, they have a budget surplus for at least 2 years running and their dollar has improved at least 18 cents against ours in less time than that, and he's trying to tell me that Canada is in trouble.

Here's a huge difference between the U.S. and Canada - Canadian corporations actually pay taxes!!!

6. The only thing I don't like about Alex ...
is how he acts like he knew the answer when the contestants didn't.

Oh sure Alex, you would have known it if you didn't have that card in your hand, huh?

But he is correct. A democratic government with capitalism as its economic system is inherently self-destructive without progressive taxation. We are seeing that right before our eyes right here in the US.

The rich get richer without doing any work while the poor get poorer through no fault of their own. It is just the nature of capitalism. Progresive taxation is the best way to inhibit this tendency.

7. I hesitate to bring this up, but it is germane - so I will.
Dr. DemoTex and I are members of Responsible Wealth. We are lucky duckies who worked like madmen (she still works almost 80 hours/week from offices in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and Greenville, SC). We have done well. We are appalled by the tax breaks we are getting. I got more back in a federal income tax refund this year than one of tonight's Jeopardy finalists makes a year at Target.

It is nice to be comfortable - financially. God knows it was hard getting here. We were poor as church mice in those grad school days. Every cent we have is from our labor (no inheritance). The PhDs paid off. Frugality and thrift paid off.

Fair taxation of the wealthy (and shared taxation of big corporations) is a big thrust of ours. We really did not need that big refund this year. It was nice to get, but obscene in light of the plight of my poor Southern Bu$h-voting neighbors.

10. That's what I think too. Because he sure sounds more
left leaning to me.
