I am REALLY disappointed with my fellow DUers!

Four days and only 600 donors? There are 70,000 of us here. We can do better than this!

As a fellow who runs a similar operation, I assure you that none of this stuff happens for free. It is VERY expensive buying bandwidth and maintaining servers, and we are all allowed to use that expensive stuff for FREE here.

Now, some of you reading this are simply too poor to donate anything, and you shouldn't even try, but the rest of you;

Cough up what a delivered pizza would cost to keep this site running. You know that it is more important to you than that extra anchovy deep dish, anyway!

What is apparently shrug-off-able to others makes a difference to me, so I might as well keep it. I'm sure I'll get over it but it's too soon. (recently as in the other day, bad timing, I know). Between graduate school and home repairs I need to cut back on all expenses for now.

Of the 70,000 registrations, I estimate that 10,000 are tombstoned, and likely another 20,000 inactive. That leaves 40,000 hard-core DUers. (Hmmm... I wonder how many can manage a rifle.) If we all sent a dollar once a quarter, the fund raising would be unnecessary.

I'd say there are 3-4,000 posters here and some of those are not all that regular. After arriving here soon after DU came into being, seeing all the freepers, sock puppets and plain ol' good Dems run out, well I can tell you your numbers are off.

It's a little dishonest of DU to have that huge number up but I can understand the PR reasoning behind it. Still, the dishonesty of it bothers me, especially cause so many believe it.

59. Actually the tombstoned ones shouldn't show up on the

total user number, should they? After all, if you try to look for the profile of a tombstoned member (after the first few hours of being banned), they don't even show up anymore.

But a lot of the 70,000 are simply inactive usernames. Like I said, I have two others that I know no one is using, they were once mine and should probably be removed from the list. I don't even know the passwords for them anymore, and one of them I only made 1 or 2 posts with (way back before I was addicted to DU! LOL!).

But yeah I'll get back to donating monthly, it's important to me.

I'm a longtime poster on this board and also served one time as a moderator. Through the years I have seen good financial times as well as bad in my personal life. If you really think that money is being spent on pizza then you haven't seen the price of gas going up or the groceries or electricity bill along with it.
