13. No matter how much time is spent on the life of Priscilla Owen...
it is a smokescreen for what this fight is really all about...

the real fight is about the US Senate, about the Constitution, what kind of example we set...

this is about the Republican leadership and their quest for ABSOLUTE CONTROL of the Supreme Court

30. "No Accountability"
Under this admin there is NO Accountability....for the budget (the interest on our debt is not even counted, any accountant would be fired, no accountability for the War in Iraq, No accountability for a bunch of other things he named, but I forgot. Said, people are so used to the lies, they don't trust anyone in Congress anymore...he got that right. He is on fire...love it!

Also said that our govt has become a wing of a religious movement...wow.

Said this is a grab for raw power...a grab that would be condemned if it was happening in any other country in the world.

Destroying the phrase, "up or down votes"...destroying other catch-phrases the pukes are using...

No pres. nominee should be excused from scrutiny by the minority

Damn Sam!

35. Personally, I don't like it when Dems frame the issue as a "power grab"...
...even though it is.

But to the middle-of-the-road, uninformed voter, it just sounds like sour grapes from the minority party.

Schumer made some salient points yesterday, for example, but after awhile even I thought he started to sound whiny when he kept talking about "how much power do you need?" - and I'm on his side :hi: I just think there's a danger of unintentionally triggering a "well, to the victor goes the spoils" reaction.

I think they should highlight how this an ABUSE. Hammer that phrase home. That's a word that resonates.

39. Too Many Already Think That, returnable
The point is to make sure that people know it IS a power grab, and that the victors in this republic do NOT get to grab for absolute power.

People already think this is a 'winner take all' system. We need to make sure people know it isn't true and that attempting to act like is a power grab.

44. I agree with the sentiment...
...I just disagree with the language used.

I think by framing it in those terms, you risk turning off the voters who, as you've noted, already think this is a winner take all system. It's an argument that plays into the GOP's hands, who are trying to frame this as "crybaby Dems" whining about losing at the polls.

Then again, I might just be overreacting to hearing the same terms being used over and over again. Maybe I'm just burned out on the argument :hi:

But that was the reaction I had after listening to several speeches on the floor yesterday. I wanted to yell "shut up about the power grab already and start hammering 'em on the abusive hypocrisy."

42. A great speech
One of his strongest points-- Senators have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution. The Constitution states that each house has authority to adopt its own rules of procedure. The contemplated changing the rules by breaking the rules violates the Constitution and those who vote for it violate their oath.
