Lautenberg to invoke Star Wars: Let's not let liberty die

Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) is set to invoke Star Wars in a speech to the United States Senate on the GOP-led effort to eliminate the judicial filibuster, RAW STORY has learned.

Excerpts follow. Source say Lautenberg will be accompanied by a "visual aid," said to be a photograph of Senator Palpatine, who in the latest film changes Senate rules to seize power.

Mr. President, as millions of Americans go to see this film this week and in the weeks ahead, I sincerely hope it doesn’t mirror actions taken in the Senate of the United States.

I say to my colleagues: lets not let liberty die. I urge you to oppose any attempt to break this Senate’s rules and destroy over 200 years of American tradition.

It will reach some people that won't be reached other ways. I mean it's clear a comment like that isn't intended for the Senate floor. I doubt many senators can even have their minds changed at this point, but if they could, I doubt it would be starwars that would do it.

No, a comment like that is intended for the American people, and I think it might turn a few heads. It's possible at any rate.

7. I think it's a good idea. Some RW'ers are already boycotting Lucas

and going nuts over it. The only reason Rod Serling said he started doing Science Fiction was so he could start doing shows about social and political issues without fear of censorship.

Star Wars is pretty black and white, just like the way many of the sheeple think. I think it has the potential to open more sheeple's eyes than all the blogs in the last 5 years.
