Texas is taking the lead in no-heartedness and stupidity.

Legislators up their pensions, cut teachers'

By Jay Root
Star-Telegram Austin Bureau

AUSTIN - Retired teacher Edlyne Dickson, who taught theater and English at Fort Worth's Southwest High School for more than two decades, has made her peace with the meager pension she gets each month.

She shops at discount stores, rarely eats out and only spends about $35 a month on prescription drugs.

But one thing she can't stomach is the fact that state lawmakers approved a hefty increase in their own lucrative pensions Monday while voting to reduce benefits for teachers entering the Teacher Retirement System.

2. In Texas there is no recorded votes unless specifically requested
But I called my state rep and demanded to know if he voted for it or not. He did.

I hope the teachers will out those who did vote for the amendment.

3. You Get What You Pay For
I was listening to a talk show on KRLD the other night. Sheesh...I had to take a shower it was so full of bile and hate. People blaming everything on the earth on "libruls" and "Democrats". If this is the mindset in Texas, no wonder the GOOP operates like the mafia there.

Teachers and their unions have been a major target of the Repugnicans on the state level nationwide. The problem is political administrators in many of these states who bring down the big salaries and direct the monies...and when the budget crunch comes down, they cut everywhere but their own cord.

Unions need to get off their heels and energize their bases. How many more contracts need to be broken? How much more crunching do they have to take? Do their leaders not really care?
