1/2 as many vote for American Idol as vote for American President
Will it be Bo or Bush, Kerry or Carrie (Underwood)?

30 million people think it's apparently just as important (or more so) to help decide who wins America's most vacuous title as who will be the next leader of our country, the most powerful person in the world.

And they vote *every week*.

2. This is sad. But, lots of young ones are involved in
all the hoopla, I think. And I'm sure I don't want to mix up AI w/our next election.

PS I'm shameless, and have watched. :)

3. I guess you forgot that the NeoCons control the voting machines,...
...and the software that runs them. The American Idol voting has been also been tampered with in the past.

I bet you still think the elections of 2000, 2002, and 2004 were legitimate.

4. Here's the thing about American Idol voting...

Not that I've ever done it...cough, cough.

The phrase "vote early and often" is their motto.
You can vote 1000 times for your favorite.
The total votes Ryan gives at the beginning of the show is NOT representative of how many people actually voted. The whole thing is bogus.

Wow. Actually, this is starting to sound more like the 2004 election.

10. Yes, you are sadly correct.

The system is literally broken. The stupidity of americans in not seeing it is now being felt, and even the ridiculous american idol choices suffer.

6. I think what it is
Is that many people actually think their vote counts when it comes to American Idol.

Not the case in the Presidential election.

7. Actually in American Idol people can vote as often as they want
So while there may have been 30 million votes, there certainly weren't 30 million voters (probably around 1 million people, I would guess).

11. If it's 30 mil that's actually 1/4 of the pres vote, 120 million
and as it was pointed out a lot of people vote multiple times so it may be more along the lines of 1-5 million with a lot of 18 year and under thrown in.

That said, I bet a much higher % of people could name the top two finalists that could name two of the competitors for the Democratic nomination other than John Kerry. Or their two US Senators. Bread and Circuses.
