Down the slippery slope...
of the "nuclear option" and a simple majority rules becomes the standard, what's next? If the GOP is successful in their attempt on this issue, what would prevent them from changing the rule, by simple majority, for ratifying a constitutional amendment? We know that the Bush agenda includes a marriage amendment somewhere down the road. It appears that it would not be too difficult to find 26 "red" states to approve such an amendment, if the rules were changed for ratification. From 75% required to a simple majority of 26 states...I shudder to even think of this scenario...please tell me I'm nuts and need to go have a nap!

7. Except...
the Theocons are being used by the real global elites who are clearly in it for the money and the power. By the time the Fristian foot soldiers realize they have been had, it will be too late for them to do anything about it.

The ridiculous thing about all of this is that those who fear "big gubmint" and the "New World Order" the most are the ones birthing it into being.

2. That woudl be harder to change
but possibly doable.

But I think it would take an amendment to the constitution to change the ammendment procedure? Wouldn't it?

4. They Would Need To Change The Constitution First
Because that is actually very clear in the constitution itself what it takes to ammend it. The fillibuster is NOT in the constitution, it's a Senate rule.

5. Not likely
It would be very hard for even the in-power party to do this. So, perhaps in the future, but i think we're safe for now.

6. Ted Kennedy said it best
In debating the nuclear option on the Senate floor today.he said it would be an opening for the right to pass more bills pandering to the CC industry, the oil industry,Pharma etc..Lots of those types of bills got through without the nuclear option imagine what they would do with it...
