U.S. seizes Cuban exile
Castro wants Posada tried for ’76 jet bombing

May 17: A Cuban man the FBI considers a terrorist,
perhaps even a mass murderer, who has been living
in the United States is now under arrest. But what
happens next? NBC's Andrea Mitchell explores.

MIAMI - Under growing international pressure, U.S. authorities Tuesday seized a Cuban exile accused by Fidel Castro’s government of masterminding a 1976 airliner bombing that killed 73 people. He had been seeking asylum in the United States.

Luis Posada Carriles, a 77-year-old former CIA operative and Venezuelan security official, was taken into custody by U.S. immigration authorities, the Homeland Security Department said in a statement.

The department did not say what it planned to do with Posada. Cuban authorities want him to be extradited to Venezuela or to go before an international tribunal. Venezuela is also seeking him.

1. They are still protecting him
from the Miami Paper http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/11671735.htm

"he Department of Homeland Security immediately released a statement saying it would not deport Posada to Cuba or its ally, Venezuela, which is requesting his extradition. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency ''does not generally remove people to Cuba, nor does ICE generally remove people to countries believed to be acting on Cuba's behalf,'' the statement said."
