Credit Cards
I saw today in an article written on the opening page of DU that if you can't pay your credit card you could face jail time. Is this true? Is it part of the new bankruptcy laws?

1. No -
as bad as the new BK bill is, you won't go to jail unless you commit fraud

2. Is it too late . . .
. . . to file for bankruptcy yet? When is the deadline? I have a friend who told me yesterday she's planning to file. I told her she'd better hurry. . .

3. But here is a scary one
Sensenbrenner has a bill pending that would require a 5 year minimum mandatory sentence if you pass a joint to someone who has been in rehab! Where will they put those 5 million people?!

6. Absolutely true
If you don't show up at a judgment debtor's exam (where the credit card company's put you under oath and demand that disclose all of your assets) the court will issue a warrant for your arrest.

And when you get picked up on that warrant- it's straight to jail.
