UN Oil for Food "kickbacks scandal". GUESS the MAIN CULPRIT.
Oh come on, stop playing coy. You KNOW who the main culprit was. Yeah, I knew you knew... :D

US 'backed illegal Iraqi oil deals'

...the Senate report found that US oil purchases accounted for 52% of the kickbacks paid to the regime in return for sales of cheap oil - more than the rest of the world put together.

"The United States was not only aware of Iraqi oil sales which violated UN sanctions and provided the bulk of the illicit money Saddam Hussein obtained from circumventing UN sanctions," the report said. "On occasion, the United States actually facilitated the illicit oil sales."

8. I remember a very short article that appeared in the New York Post
Edited on Wed May-18-05 12:05 AM by Dover
about a year ago, that said exactly this, and said that the oil was shipped first to some foreign ports where it was transferred to another ship bound for a U.S. port...the old switch and bate. But no other media source added their voice to this story, and many (here at DU at least) dismissed it due the NYPost's conservative leanings.

anybody else recall seeing the article?

9. Repeat after me, DFI SCANDAL
One article has $20 billion missing from the Development Fund for Iraq, the DFI SCANDAL.

"Today, Henry Waxman who serves on the House Committee investigating the U.N. Oil for Food program, issued a call to investigate “abuses in the Development Fund for Iraq , the successor to the Oil for Food program run by the Bush Administration.”
