Very, very chilling...
I apologize if this is a dupe and has already been discussed, but did anyone catch Ring of Fire last weekend when they interviewed Dr. Fritz Stern regarding parallels of America under Bush and Germany in the 1930s?

If not, here's the link to the audio:

http://www.ringoffireradio.com/show.asp?jid=63

When asked about parallels he gave many indicators in America today that are very similar to how Nazism rose in the '30s. When asked for reasons for hope he spoke about the American people's respect for the Constitution, but didn't really seem to be able to think of any others...instead continued with the parallels.

Very disturbing...this has been bothering me ever since I listened to the show last Saturday.

you are invested in WWII somehow and need to read the history. Fully another if you do it in an attempt to not learn the sorry lessons of history but to take advantage of them.

So true. Bush is continuing the family legacy for sure. Is there an mp3 of this? I'd like to save this audio file.

18. Compare Hitler's "Enabling Act" To Bush's...
...P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Acts. Nearly identical. Both following "acts of terrorism". Both "to protect us from terrorists". Both farces.
Removing our civil liberties DOES NOT make us safer.

3. Cleita had some very good insights on this subject last Sunday...
but it's quickly falling, due to all the other events in the past two days. Check out her topic here:

21. Thanks for the thread...
I read through it ... very thoughtful analysis.

One thing that was eluded to by, I believe by Selatius, slapped me right across the face it was so obvious: Whereas Nazi Germany dealt with dissenters through force, death camps, etc., here and now they are dealing with dissenters (that would be you and me) by first labeling us as elite liberal leftists that hate America and secondly by cutting everyone else off from an independent media. The media echos RW propaganda further solidifying in the rest of the public that everything is as it should be and liberals are to be discounted, their opinions shunned and ridiculed. Really it's a form of mass mind control that has divided this country with an ever widening chasm.

This mind control has been in works for the last 30 years.

I feel the key to what the end goal is is linked directly to PNAC, but what that exactly is I am still trying to work out in my mind.

I put a copy of the TomPaine article on the Blair memo last week and somebody wrote "Science Fiction" on it, despite the article's mention that Blair admits its bona fides

11. Hence, the reason many of us are so obsessed with current events,...
,...we are being pulled in a direction that is repulsive to civilization.

Strangely, my own obsession was triggered by a dream rather than knowledge. Now, my obsession is driven by accumulation of information and actively spreading the word to anyone open to acknowledging the very dangerous storm in which we find ourselves.

12. Too coincidental
My now adult child did a high school report on the similarities back in late 2001. It was chilling then and even more so now that the parallels are escalating. A Handmaid's Tale....

20. For a chilling comparison, check out...
...Thom Hartmann's WHEN DEMOCRACY FAILED: THE WARNINGS OF HISTORY

:scared:

<snip>
To consolidate his power, he concluded that government alone wasn't enough. He reached out to industry and forged an alliance, bringing former executives of the nation's largest corporations into high government positions. A flood of government money poured into corporate coffers to fight the war against the Middle Eastern ancestry terrorists lurking within the homeland, and to prepare for wars overseas. He encouraged large corporations friendly to him to acquire media outlets and other industrial concerns across the nation, particularly those previously owned by suspicious people of Middle Eastern ancestry. He built powerful alliances with industry; one corporate ally got the lucrative contract worth millions to build the first large-scale detention center for enemies of the state. Soon more would follow. Industry flourished.

But after an interval of peace following the terrorist attack, voices of dissent again arose within and without the government. Students had started an active program opposing him (later known as the White Rose Society), and leaders of nearby nations were speaking out against his bellicose rhetoric. He needed a diversion, something to direct people away from the corporate cronyism being exposed in his own government, questions of his possibly illegitimate rise to power, and the oft-voiced concerns of civil libertarians about the people being held in detention without due process or access to attorneys or family.

With his number two man - a master at manipulating the media - he began a campaign to convince the people of the nation that a small, limited war was necessary. Another nation was harboring many of the suspicious Middle Eastern people, and even though its connection with the terrorist who had set afire the nation's most important building was tenuous at best, it held resources their nation badly needed if they were to have room to live and maintain their prosperity. He called a press conference and publicly delivered an ultimatum to the leader of the other nation, provoking an international uproar. He claimed the right to strike preemptively in self-defense, and nations across Europe - at first - denounced him for it, pointing out that it was a doctrine only claimed in the past by nations seeking worldwide empire, like Caesar's Rome or Alexander's Greece.

so much more:
