HOLY SHIITE (This is actually the headline of the NY Post today)
Edited on Tue May-17-05 09:09 AM by soupkitchen

In a move certain to further inflame Muslims around the the NY Post equated Shiites with Shit by using the words interchangeably.

Under the headline: HOLY SHIITE --Newsweek retracts its deadly toilet tale--the NY Post also ran a picture of a toilet bowl with a copy of Newsweek sticking out.

Well, what to you expect from the Print version of Fox News? Their parent company wouldn't have it any other way.

Of course, next week after more people die in riots, the Post probably won't offer a retraction, they'll offer a headline like Tough Shite.

10. The first Spy Kids movie used a similar line.
The lead girl in the movie said "Shiite... Muslims" when being chased by a team of robotic spy kids. She also said "Shit...take Mushrooms" at another spot in the movie.

We can blame Disney if a new riot occurs in the Middle East over this.

9. Its bad....its tasteless for sure...
but I don't think you can equate the two given the reverance that the Koran is held in the Islam religion.

Afghan Riots Not Tied to Report on Quran Handling, General Says
Army investigating allegations of mishandling at Guantanamo Bay facility

By Jacquelyn S. Porth
Washington File Staff Writer

Washington – The chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff says a report from Afghanistan suggests that rioting in Jalalabad on May 11 was not necessarily connected to press reports that the Quran might have been desecrated in the presence of Muslim prisoners held in U.S. custody at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Air Force General Richard Myers told reporters at the Pentagon May 12 that he has been told that the Jalalabad, Afghanistan, rioting was related more to the ongoing political reconciliation process in Afghanistan than anything else.

According to initial reports, the situation in Jalalabad began on May 10 with peaceful student protests reacting to a report in Newsweek magazine that U.S. military interrogators questioning Muslim detainees at the Guantanamo detention center “had placed Quran s on toilets, and in at least one case flushed a holy book.” By the following day the protests in the city had turned violent with reports of several individuals killed, dozens wounded, and widespread looting of government, diplomatic and nongovernmental assets.

However, Myers said an after-action report provided by U.S. Army Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry, commander of the Combined Forces in Afghanistan, indicated that the political violence was not, in fact, connected to the magazine report.

a story like this.

16. I saw that earlier - I wonder if Gen. Eikenberry will be job hunting.
It was in direct conflict with Rummy's warning about keeping your mouth shut.

17. Perhaps we need to mail the same stories from 2003 to the Post.
The only difference about the stories then and now is that Newsweek received the information from a ranking US official. Back in 2003 only the released prisoners were saying this and of course, we know how they would lie!

18. Not to worry.....
isn't Karen Hughes supposed to step in in the next six months or year or so to work on our image and reputation with the Muslims? She'll have them seeing what grand and wonderful folks the Americans are in no time at all. They'll understand then. Then democracy will stampede across the globe.
