In regards to the "riots in Afghanistan", "oil for food" deals, the Newsweek story, the price of gasoline, the Social Security argument, etc. There are many diversions and distractions going on. I doubt there is any journalist in the world that could keep up with them.
We don't know which are being promoted by "intelligence" agencies to further another goal or which are legitimate? The Newsweek story stinks to high heaven. It seems like an opportune moment to attack the press in an effort to further a political agenda by those on the extreme right. Regardless, it is a great diversion as the Repubs in the Senate ready themselves to emasculate the Constitution with their backdoor maneuver to undo the filibuster rule without changing the rule in the Senate.
The "riots in Afghanistan" are said to be because of the Newsweek story? But, is it really? What is the real story in Afghanistan?
The Social Security argument is the grand diversion. It appears to this amateur student of politics that Mr. Bush is getting a great deal more mileage from this issue than he originally planned. He wanted something to distract and to get the attention of the Democrats and divert them from more important issues but with the assistance of the media, has been more successful than he could ever dream.
The price of gasoline, the war in Iraq, drilling in ANWR are all interconnected. But, there has been no reported shortage of gasoline and oil companies are making obscene profits, even as the Republicans vote them billions and billions of dollars in relief.
As this Administration goes after all those that were making money off the oil-for-food programs when Saddam was in power, it now comes forward that Americans received more money from Iraqi oil than all the other countries combined. Reportedly, 52% of all the contracts with Saddam were with Americans.
We are living in a changing and dangerous world, where illusions and distractions are the rule rather than the exception. Most of that is due to the present leadership in Washington, who dearly believe in PR, propaganda, illusions, and lies, if it promotes their agenda. Very few things are as they seem.
