Dave Chapelle not crazy or on drugs, thank goodness.
He just needed a break and went on a spiritual journey in South Africa. He did an interview with Time to set the record straight.

I was praying for Chapelle, I love him and my best to him and his family.

4. dave chapelle not on drugs? are you kidding?
i saw him live once, he was very, very obviously baked. it was embarassing, and his act really sufferred. he did get better after an hour or so as it was clearly wearing off....

i think he's got a problem with marijuana, if nothing else.

i'm hardly a prude, and i've known plenty of people who used marijuana in moderation and i wouldn't call it a 'problem'.

but there are a minority of marijuana users for whom it IS a problem, and i think dave chapelle is one of them.

7. yeah, he acknowledged it during the show. my point was that it showed.
most performers who do marijuana before a show do just enough to relax. this time, at least, he clearly "overdosed", in that it adversely affected his act. his mind was unfocused and his timing was all off.

9. I think he just may have bit off more than he could chew at one time.
For the record, I think the guy is a riot.. but it's tough to be a one-man comedy show that's consistently funny season after season. Even the best ensemble shows (like Kids in the Hall) have a tendency to lose it after a while. He was under a hell of a lot of pressure to produce this season, IMHO.
